Re: My journey of improving the AI
I prepared everything for the next build of the beta. Here's the changes compared to the current version: Added: * Added two sets of new icons for farmers, miners, workers and scientists that gain higher yields than normal. * Added option in Pandora.xml to switch between the two sets of new icons. ...

Re: intuitive vs. subtle
Also I really don't like them from an aesthetical point of view. I play the game a lot and I want it to look nice. :o For me the logic: big icon = big yield just feels better than having to count and tell the difference of 3 or 4 stripes. I agree completely. Good graphics help for immersion. I wish...

Re: intuitive vs. subtle
Here's another variant of the Icons with bigger icons for bigger yields: http://www.civforum.de/attachment.php?attachmentid=1195522 After seeing this, maybe I'd change my vote. but I'm just really happy to see this citizen yield amount indicator added. It will make it so much easier to play efficie...

Re: My journey of improving the AI
An interesting sight was that The Ambassadors usually were doing well in every single game. Simple reason: They usually stood out of wars and thus could focus on economy. I have noticed this as well and believe that it's very telling. The other factions are wasting their production on wars that don...

Re: My journey of improving the AI
Easy counter: Just ask someone who is generous towards me to declare war on him aswell. Extremely cheap technique. The result of the request should not be affected by the relations you have when asking, it should only work when you would want to declare war on your own. It does seem like almost eve...

Re: My journey of improving the AI
I have started a game where I play myself once again. Economically the improvements of worker-allocation and the bugfix to tile-improvement seem to work well. I'm quite far behind in everything (playing on Hard difficulty). But usually it was the later stages of the game where I could catch up and ...

Re: What are the Cons of Conquering Cities in Pandora?
When a city is captured, it could worsen relations others have towards the aggressor by the following formula: population of the captured city/population the one who lost the city had before * relationship I had with the faction that lost the city * (1 - myAggressiveness) This means: If you capture...

Re: What are the Cons of Conquering Cities in Pandora?
The only reason I can see to not take everything you can is to not make the others jealous. (a mechanism that does this was introduced with the last beta-patch) Because this is the only reason not to take everything you can, I think that this new mechanism needs to be very strong and have an impact...

What are the Cons of Conquering Cities in Pandora?
What are the reasons for not conquering cities in Pandora? I understand the reasons for not always building colonists and settling new regions; but taking cities (especially large, well-developed cities with lots of buildings and a large population) seems to me, in my few game so far, to be always w...

Re: Diplomatic Strategies?
I think that maybe how close one faction is to victory (for purposes of diplomatic distain from other AIs) should be relative to how close others AIs are to victory. In other words, if one faction still has a very long way to go before achieving a victory condition, but they are still far ahead of ...

Re: Strategies for playing as The Terra Salvum?
Terra Salvum has a superior industry-capacity in the early game, since they usually have way less pollution than others and also can switch to full industry-mode without a problem since they always have enoug +2 mineral-tiles. However, their weak units makes it hard to really use that advantage for...

Re: Diplomatic Strategies?
I'm looking for some tips for diplomacy. I'm playing only my second game and I get trade and research treaties with almost everyone, but then I don't really do anything (like publicly praise or denounce; or try to get third party sanctions and such). So what would be a general diplomatic strategy? ...

Strategies for playing as The Terra Salvum?
How do you like to play as The Terra Salvum? Do you play friendly towards alien life and refrain from fighting them? How do you best utilize their mineral bonus on forests? Do you build anything on forest with your formers (besides roads)? Do you expand a little slower because of their "frugal&...

Re: My journey of improving the AI
A house-rule would be to never suggest anything on your own and just react to what the AI asks for. I'm thinking that maybe I could allow myself to actively attempt to pay/bribe the AI, but only if I have a significant amount of credits in my treasury. I would have to, as your other post suggested,...

Re: My journey of improving the AI
And here's what I think about diplomacy: Bribing AIs to go to war with each other seems a big issue. Due to this I've turned certain doom into victory many times. Also bribing someone to go to war with someone you aren't at war with yourself is even worse. Preemtively getting them off your back and...

Re: Opponents expanding into my territory
Today I've taken care about city-location selection. The AI will now value cities further away from other cities much higher and thus shall avoid planting cities near your borders. Here's an example of a well done city-location picking by the AI. Border-expansion-ordering was also treated. http://w...

Question about 1.5.5.
Is the new beta (1.5.5.) saved game compatible? Is it saved game compatible with Ail's No Spies/Improved AI mod?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Re: My journey of improving the AI
Over the past couple of days I have mostly been focussed on Technology-selection. It deemed especially necessary to get important techs that have useless prerequisites. So right now for the evaluation half of the value of a future tech is added to it's prerequisites. I also found a really good way ...

Re: Announcement: Your chance to affect the future of Pandor
I have been thoroughly enjoying this game since I bought it. I have been playing 4x strategies for 23 years (Civ 1 I think was the first), every type I can get my hands on, and probably have 4 thousand hours at least of playing Alpha Centauri; I still have it installed and give it a go from time to...
