Thoughts on Early Byzantines
I have few thoughts about Early Byzantine list (as the subject header would suggest), many of which have occured to other posters on this message board. I like list as a whole and think it serves its purpose well. However, a few changes could create a better, more historical representation of the Ea...

15mm swords
Does anyone know of source for 15mm swords? I am especially interested in 15th century European and Islamic designs.
I have open-handed figures that come with spears, but I am interested in arming a few of them with swords.

Well, when I started collecting 15mm (for DBM) all of the players in my area had medieval eastern european armies, like Ottomans, Hungarians, and Germans. I chose Venetians because they are historical opponents for all of those armies, and I was enraptured by Mirliton's Condotta range. Being of nort...

Of course, the problem for the spearmen is that things rapidly go downhill for them if they get disrupted. The knights only lose dice while disrupted, while the spearmen start giving up all kinds of POA. In my experience, knights aren't actually very good at winning combats (at least, no better than...

Nice report. Thank you for going through the effort of typing it up. I am surprised that your shooting was so effective against the pike. In my experience you really need the negatives for the CTs to disrupt things, which can be hard to get against larger battlegroups. I take it the pikes did not ha...

Crossbowmen are fine - I am not complaining about their utility. I have 12 bases in my army and they are okay troops. If anything, the combined spear/crossbow battlegroups would probably be worse than straight crossbows. It's just that the spearmen, for their two historical roles, are either poorly ...

What about the militia pavisiers and crossbowmen? Right. That combination accurately models Italian infantry tactics in the late 1300's. But there should be an option to field mercenary crossbows in the same formation at least up to the mid 1400's, and there should be better ratings for the spearme...

Italian Condotta Infantry
Hi all. I thought I'd offer some unsolicited comments on the Italian Condotta Army list. In general, I like the army list. I especially like the way the heavy infantry is handled, with the limit of 8 bases total. However, I feel that there are some problems with the Italian spearmen, or lack thereof...
