Growth Bug?
This screenshot illustrates a bug in growth. The growth is shown at 0.0 per turn, but adding the factors it looks like it should be 17.3 per turn. Is this a bug, or is something else at work here? I notes the population says 8/8. Does that mean that cities have a population cap now, and can't grow a...

Re: How I went from curious to scared to confident to bored
If the terraformers get some high tech abilities, like advanced roads, or building entrenchments or fortifications, or planetary boreholes, or raising land out of water, etc., then having extra formers would actually be useful. But as it is, they are just a drain on the AI.

Re: Some thoughts after 3 months of play
In many games, a unit can spend a certain number of turns defensively and become "entrenched", greatly increasing resistance to artillery and help defense in general. Also, it seems like terraformers should be able to make entrenchments or field fortifications. I agree that tanks should ge...

Re: Some thoughts after 3 months of play
Upgrading should NEVER cost more than just buying a new unit outright. After all, there must SOMETHING that can be salvaged from the old unit.
It would be great to have technology that makes upgrades cheaper, but the upgrade starting point should always be less than buying a new unit.

Re: How I went from curious to scared to confident to bored
I noticed this and pointed it out previously: the AI builds way too many formers, and to a lesser extent, colononizers.
Also, the AI builds NO artillery, which I think is one of the most important units.

Same with me. I saw no new abilities, and I was specifically looking forward to the "improving Ecoregion".

Re: Orbital Bombardment
I used to think you should use orbital bombardments as soon as useful, so they could recharge. But it seems to me that they recharge anyway and stack up to orbital bombardments available. I like that. So then I use them when I want. I rarely ever deplete them all in case a target of opportunity beco...

I have had similar situations, but I have never had this happen, where one of my units moved in and the other attacked it. They both just moved into the hex.

Re: Starter tips
Great starting hints!
I would just add that you move a selected unit by right-clicking on the target square. This personally took me awhile to figure out.

Re: What gets harder for Hard and Very Hard?
The 33% attack penalty for the Environmental faction makes them the hardest faction to play on VH, in my option. You have to pay quite a lot to offset this penalty in construction cost. The benefits would be more useful if one could harvest all of the values of a forest, but otherwise add one more m...

Re: Rivers
In some games, rivers act as roads (that you don't have to build).
Alpha Centauri allows a former to "Drill to aquifer, to trigger a river springing from the source square and running down to the ocean.

Re: What gets harder for Hard and Very Hard?
After playing several games with VH AI and Low alien aggression, I can definitely say the higher alien aggression hurts the AI much more than it hurts the human player. As long as the human player plays smart and does not every try to expand until a secure perimeter, the human player can deal with t...

So developers, what happened with 0.15 to slow the game down so much?

Re: LONG AI Turn
Does the AI take advantage of multicore processors to reduce turn time? I have an i7, so that might be an advantage here.
Still, I noticed a very definite increase of time at the last major release. Did something happen at the last major release to slow down the AI processing time?

Re: Needed feature: Area of Influence
I don't know about taking over enemy cities. I don't know if I would be wanting to fight an influence war, because that could go both directions. I don't want my cities to be at risk because the enemy built a bunch of cities near my border and is trying to crowd my influence out. So I am not thinkin...

Re: Use Pandora Engine to make Alpha Centauri 2
Why wouldn't EA want to do it? It seems like it is all gravy to them. The only income that they can get from Alpha Centauri now is from GOG, which can't be that much.
I would think that EA would jump at the chance to publish Alpha Centauri 2.
Has anyone actually contacted them and asked?

Re: Hidden and Randomized tech tree should be optional
Don't forget for the Randomized tree option to make an option where the tech tree is not hidden.
I could see myself occasionally trying out a random tech tree, but only if the random tree is not hidden. I do not find it fun to research a bunch of techs I don't want just to expose the tech tree.

Use Pandora Engine to make Alpha Centauri 2
What do you need for a sequel for a great game (like Alpha Centauri)? 1. Modern compatibility a. Latest OS, i.e. Windows 8 b. Latest network standards c. Latest central processors, i.e. taking advantage of multicore processors for increased speed d. Latest graphics processors for graphics accelerat...

Hidden and Randomized tech tree should be optional
I have now played enough games that I can definitely say that I do not like to always play with a hidden and randomized tech tree. I think this should be optional, and that a standard tech tree should be available. I also that randomizing the tech tree and hiding the tech tree should be different op...
