Re: [MOD] Ghosts on the Thrones (310 BC)

Hello. Can you tell me if there are mods that make city sieges more realistic? For example, if a city has a non-blocked port, it could be used to deliver food and supplies to the besieged.

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Since it is only a stop-gap, we would prefer not to make new textures. We have two available texture sets for this model. Which would you prefer / find least inauthentic. (These are Side A textures. The side B textures are similar but different colours). The ones in the top picture are the ones use...

A good option. Probably the best.

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

The possibilities therefore are: 1) Use the early western knights model, but increase the armour rating. 2) Use the current Rus noble cavalry, but re-animate it charging with couched lance, and increase the armour rating. I like the first option. If it is not possible to draw textures units, then t...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

So I watched Zhukov's video and I think what he says there is that equipment of Russian druzhina cavalry was equal to that of western knights (I guess it somewahat stays true in-game as both early knigths and Russian cavalry are superior/armoured and representations of their armament is more questi...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

It would be fine to replace the German knights with an equivalent unit of Russian knights. The role of German mercenaries on Russian lists seems to me disproportionate. Really the elite nucleus of the princely armies were western knights? the truth is that I do not know but I doubt that Russia was ...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

The Russians of the 13th century almost did not fight with the knights. The battle of Lake Peipus is one of the few exceptions. Some scholars dispute its size, saying it was more of a minor border skirmish. But we know that Nevsky was on the defensive and even hid his cavalry, so he was afraid of t...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Hi rbodleyscott! In continuation of our steam discussion i want ta add a few cents about russian army list. As i said before I think that recent lists represent the russian force pretty well, but a late one (1155-1264) needs an addition of an elite heavy cavalry unit (like knights in western armies...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Yes, that suggests skirmishing tactics rather than knights. The majority of Hungarian and Polovsty cavalry were light horse archers. The Polovtsy certainly had no knights. That statement is in favour of the current classification, not changing the cavalry to knights. Does this mean that Russian lig...

Re: The Battle of Legnica (1241)

Hello. I would very much like to see the Battle of Legnica (1241) in the game. This is a very large battle between the invading Mongol army and the combined Polish-Teutonic army. We won't be adding more official scenarios to the game for this particular region and time period, there are far too man...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

This might be a justification for a list adjustment with most of the cavalry being classified as they currently are, but some (princely ones) being classified as knights. Or Armoured Noble Lancers (ie: Light Lancers capability). I am very dubious about classifying Russian cavalry as Knights until w...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Firstly that was a misuse of the work pike. A pike is an infantry weapon, 5 metres or more in length, and wielded with both hands. He means a long lance/spear. Secondly we do not suggest that they did not use long lances. The "light spear" classification in the game, despite the name, is ...

Hello. Do you read German? The book by a German author - Brix, Heinrich Otto Richard - "History of the old Russian army institutions". https://dlib.rsl.ru/viewer/01004560536#?page=1 I will quote its Russian version. Although his book is more of a commentary on an English author, his name i...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Of course the presence of saddles with high backs and fronts does not necessarily mean knight-style tactical doctrine. Even the Mongols used high back and front saddles. Nor does the fact that a Mongol prince was once killed, whether or not he was at the back of the army. I appreciate that I could ...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Most likely, the heavy riders, armed as knights and fighting as knights, were the majority That would be a real pity, as it would make the Rus armies very similar to Polish and Hungarian and even Teutonic Order, whereas currently they have their own unique identity. Rus was then part of Europe. Whe...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

The Medieval scholar Zhukov tells about the revolution (big changes in just 20-30 years) in the XV century, when the Russian cavalry (of the Moscow Kingdom) became light. That is, in fact, it became the cavalry of the Eastern type. It seems that this fact has already become common knowledge. Except...

Re: Suggestions for revision of Russian army lists

Interesting fact. The Livonian rhymed chronicle (verse 2110), reporting on the battle of Lake Peipus (1242), says that there were many foot archers in the Russian army. Apparently, Prince Alexander Nevsky had high hopes for them. So they were good foot shooters. I have the text of this chronicle in ...
