Fair point. No units escaped - they were all routed when they left the map. There is no wagon, nor anything else of any obvious interest and the briefing didn't suggest anything to me either. I'm not bothered if it turns out to be a bug (it's pretty minor after all). I'm concerned that I may be fail...

Narbonne: A Long Road. What are you supposed to do?
I've just played the Narbonne scenario from The Tale of the Honourable Knight (the one called A Long Road). I won both times I played it - meaning I routed all the enemy forces, with a 78 for 14 casualty ratio. However, on the summary screen at the end I can see four boxes describing various rewards...

What causes squads to gain experience?
Am I correct in thinking that squads gain experience only for kills and therefore 20 kills for 10 losses is better than 15 kills for 5 losses? The reason I ask is that when I first fought the "Perigord - Night Attack" scenario my tactics were poor and I suffered a lot of casualties before ...

CPU consumption while idle
I recently noticed that GBM has started to run sluggishly on my PC. I assumed this was a problem with underlying system but when I started investigating I noticed that gbm.exe consumes just under 50% of the CPU even while idle (eg with the campaign screen displayed but otherwise doing nothing). Is t...

Is there a way to stop archers firing?
I've noticed other posts here that mention that archers collect far more kills than other units, particularly in the early scenarios. In some cases I wanted to moderate that by letting my foot soldiers engage enemy units that had routed and then rallied. I thought they would make easy kills for my o...

Why would I dismount my general?
I notice in browsing the army management screen that I can have my general dismounted if I wish. However, as best I can tell, all the stats for a dismounted general are the same or worse. So, is there a benefit to having Sir William on foot? The only one I can think of is that on foot I can vary his...

Can you cancel a movement order
I received a copy of Great Battles Medieval for Christmas and I'm just starting to work through it. It's great. Brings back fond memories of Legion Arena. However, I'm struggling with one thing - is it possible to cancel a movement order for a unit after you've issued it but before it has completed?...

I finally finished the third and fourth installments of The Rise of Carthage tonight. Apologies for dropping in and out like this - real life gets in the way. Anyway, I have a couple more comments. As with Britannicus I find that I can't delete saved games. It isn't really a problem because I can ov...

Gwinn, the ghosts and demons in Cult of Mithras didn't really engage me either, but there are some very serious tactical challenges there that push you to play better than in LA or Britannicus. I've found it by far the most difficult of the three LA campaigns. Actually I still haven't finished. CoM...

Recommendations for a Slitherine game that follows LA?
I've played through both campaigns in Legion Arena and the Britannicus mod and I'm wondering what to try next. From reading here I get the impression that the two candidates are either Cult of Mithras or Spartan. Would anyone like to talk me into either one :) I'm wary of CoM because, well, ghosts a...

Well, odd you should say that, because I'm wrestling with just that issue, and my inability to resolve it thus far is the reason for my recent lack of progress. The storytelling element you refer to was largely possible because Britannicus covers a large number of events within the lifetime of a si...

No, there is no better tactic than Charging for The Duel. I don't really know about that scenario. I was inspired to insert it where I did, it forms parts of the gestalt , but I'm entirely willing to admit it's a bit silly, in one sense ;) Hmm. We have slightly different perspectives :) I liked tha...

I finally finished the Britannicus campaign over the Christmas period and I've been really impressed at how neatly it moves on from the original LA campaigns. I thought the story line works well, especially the fact that we get to see Britannicus and his men develop in a realistic time frame. I was ...

possum, Hi. Thank you for the very quick response. I've sent you a note via PM with information about the SaveGame file. I've tried re-fighting the first three scenarios tonight and a) I do slightly better :D and b) I don't see the problem of disappearing troops. So whatever it was is not easily rep...
