Re: Archers too weak
So, I think the discussion go far away from the topic. Let the 'longbow' dispute alone and tell me why archers can't fire behind first enemy unit on a flat terrain ! Sorry, it's plain stupid and mostly, unhistorical.

Re: Arrows vs Armour: Agincourt Myth Busting
And what's so fantastic here ? It's very clear that the a cumulationof factors win the battle for the english. It's very logic. Horses were mowed down by the arrows and the rear lines just stumble upon the front, having a big mass of bodies killed by own weight ! That's Agincourt for short ! Tight m...

Archers too weak
Hi,
Always wondered why those damn archers can't shoot behind frontal enemy; for slingers I understand, but historical facts tell us that archers usually target enemy behind a forward clash.

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
You don't simply smash an expensive horse into anything approaching a solid metal pointy object. Ugh. Even if you wanted to, I don't think the horse would cooperate. I think looking at the Napoleonic era is useful here because of the enormous amount of well-documented cavalry vs infantry fighting t...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
if cav are present, you tie them down with your own, making sure you can't be flanked also, so each counter each other out, if numbers are equal Man, when you're confident with your (number/quality/etc)cavalry, you split your forces. Some will only for 'anticavalry' purposes and some for shock atta...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
Beside that, I can't manage to redo the Adamclisi roman victory with the ingame scenario. Not even once. Dacians were every time totally victorious. Sarmatians were useless, unless for chasing archers and destroy artillery. And seems noone know the difference between sarmatian lances and roxolani ca...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
horse for the day were the eyes and ears of the commander, if used correctly in game they are devastating tbh in flank and rear attacks, anyone who chargers the guns as per say, as does frontal's with them, has either no idea on how to use them, or just wishes to throw a great and fast unit away, w...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
If this were the case the best cavalry tactic would be to give cavalrymen copious amounts of alcohol and blind their horses so neither feels danger, In fact you're telling a damn historical truth here, without realizing it, pal. :D :D Dacians were 'renowned' to enter battles while drunk. Especially...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
[ Now you mix in reverse the notions; first you said in ancient times were no knights and now you say 'knights would have ridden....'. Obviously you're stubborn on preconceptions read from somewhere. Medieval knights and theirs charging way, off course, are a totally different thing. Ancient 200 an...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
Regarding the physics of horses ramming into infantry, I think the momentum is the biggest problem. Even if humans would be on the losing side of the collision, the horse would hardly be able to keep balance when slamming its limbs into the mass of people. It could be roughly analogous to covering ...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
I think Leonardus is being picked on needlessly, when A he likely hasn’t played the game too long and B possibly isnt a native English speaker... OK, but with all due respect, it is a bit difficult for me to take someone seriously when they say this to RBS: You're not knowing what you're talking ab...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
And which is something that reenactions cannot really replicate owing to the relatively low number of participants involved. You're not knowing what you're talking about. A 500kg mass traveling such a speed even killed before impact will travel by inertial force many meters destroying/killing/incap...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
Given the performance of Romans and Napoleonic square formation (and there being no historical contemporary separation between anti-infantry infantry and anti-cavalry infantry) it seems logical that the most important factor when facing cavalry charge was not choice of weapons but maintaining solid...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
This is because real heavy cavalry in ancient times was scarce. But, when charging 250 cavalry towards 450 sword regular infantry I assure you this will not result in 20 casualties amongst. Besides history I am in a rennactement of ancient battle group and I again assure you I know what I talking a...

Re: Charge cavalry too weak
Hello, I believe cavalry charging, that means CHARGE or an attack from many hexes distance is too weak against all kind of opponents. Especially the heavy one. Historically, unless you have a good cavalry repellent unit as pikes/spears, a charge from a heavy cavalry will devastate your force on spo...

Re: Unit editor ?!
Unbelievable good work. Keep on. Can you guide me more detailed how you start making new units, step by step, if you don't mind, I'm a newbie here, but trying to make more accurate my old country Dacia for FOG. Off-course, on private mail, to not overcharge this forum. Thank you very much. Have a n...
