It's not that the diplomatic options are limited in number (as you say, there's almost an overabundance), it's that they still don't allow complex alliances (let alone the ability for a number of nations to act together) and the AI doesn't appear to use them at all. In other words, they're just anot...

Re: Played the demo of Spartan :(
I would not advise buying the game if you're that interested in realism. It's slightly better in that regard than something like Civ (mostly because of its narrower focus), but not by much. However, everyone has their own point of 'damn this is fake and completely breaks the immersion' - I remember ...

Wyrun: Thank you for your reply. I created a mod\Crete folder in the Gates of Troy folder. When I run the game I get the little window that offers me the option of loading the Crete mod, but I am not able to actually get the mod to run. All I get is the regular, unmodded, game. I have tried unzippi...

The thing I don't get about that masses-of-militia technique is where the heck people get enough food to feed them all. I am always worrying about food production after I get past 15 cities. I find it's usually easier to trade than produce for food, as long as you have enough gold/marble/iron citie...

I hate to admit that it happened to me once. I made a distant nation vassal and when some other empire took one of their former cities (I couldn't send my armies that quick), they became independent again (and got conquered by their enemies anyway), so the answer is YES, it can happen to you player...

Making it harder to hold a large empire
I was thinking that one of the things I find annoying about GoT is that holding a large empire is too easy. I never have the declaring independence things that happen to the AI, and I can control dissent no matter how high I tax or how few happiness buildings I have by employing masses Levy/Astynomi...

Hmm... what happened to the old unit list?
There used to be a web page with a list of units in Spartan/GoT comparing their strengths/weaknesses etc. Seems to have disappeared with the new website design

I've just been playing it this afternoon - thanks! A quick recap: got bitten by the initial invaders since my main army went south to conquer Gortyn originally. They captured Knossos after I'd issued the capital building order (1000 bricks... ouch). Managed to snatch it back with heavy losses. Slowl...

The high level diplomatic buildings allow some alliance type functions - e.g. long term peace (no attacks), marriage alliance (view troops). Haven't ever got the highest level (League Headquarters); it may allow something extra. EDIT: Just looked at the manual (doh). Nothing that interesting, at lea...
