It's not a bad idea at all. Some sample bases to cut out can help get folks started with playing with the rules and sampling different armies before they buy the figures - got to be a good thing for newcomers to the hobby.

Let me spell out exactly what my point is in relation to what I'd like to see in the AoW army lists. I think the discussion to date proves that this can be an area that provokes strong opinions. Armour, mounts, weapons and skills in their use, drill, and tactical doctrine preferences are all a matte...

The legions of imperial Rome, when the men served for 20-22 years? The housecarls of Charlemagne? The cataphracts that served with Belisarius? Hey Possum - you have missed my point. The examples you've quoted do not counter my argument that armies of this period were generally not fulltime or highl...

Re: Caesarian Romans vs Sassanid Persian Clibanaries, frontal shock From what I've seen of AoW rules in a group play test, there is a concerted emphasis on classifying troops and nuances (points of advantage in AoW parlance) based upon their actual tactical behaviour and preferences , rather than fo...

Awesome battle reports and photos. Many thanks Neil on behalf of all the AoW virgins out there.

I take it then that religious conviction is no substitute for a sound plan of action - now all we have to do is pass that message on to world leaders

Cheers

The key to the title must be to create a brand that is attractive to the youth gamer and newbies - established hobbyists will know from their fellow gamers and their own experiences what these rules are about irrespective of the title. It is cracking the youth and newbie market that can provide real...
