Map Graphics
After looking at the three examples on the Kickstarter page, I'd opt for the naturalistic style. The hand drawn map is visually a confusing mess, looking more like dazzle camo than a functional game map. The Etch style is OK, but shares with the hand drawn map the distracting green splotches represe...

Ha! I have my doubts about the expertise of your opponentsWeid wrote:I am quite satisfied with the current game balance because playing as the allied is fun and challenging, and I don't care if I lose. I don't lose much against expert players even.

Re: Play balance
There is certainly no reason to pile on counterincentives to turtling. I like using VP based incentives the most. The bit about the Brits is really a comment on one aspect of the campaign that the standard game probably gets wrong. Historically, the Brits were released around the 26th not because th...

Re: Play balance
I should think the early release of the Brits would be triggered by German defensive play. The trick is figuring out the appropriate trigger.

Re: Play balance
I've been carrying the torch for reducing VPs in the east for months. But releasing the Brits when the Axis touch the Meuse is the ahistorical situation I was pointing out. Rather, getting to the Meuse should delay or inhibit release of the Brits, since a stronger Axis performance would have provide...

Re: Play balance
Back to the historical situation, the Allied high command was split over where and when to launch a counteroffensive. Montgomery, once given operational command in the crisis, would have opted to pull the entire defense north of the Meuse to regroup before turning on the Germans, but he really could...

Re: Play balance
I like granting VPs for control of objectives regardless OOS or not as it encourages aggressive Axis play. There is a separate award of 1 VP per SP in supply over the Meuse and the big enchillada, 3VPs per SP that exits the map, which is only possible for activated Axis units.

Unable to load game from GC
This is probably an old issue, but I'm seeing it now with increasing frequency. I am currently running three games through the GC, two BotB campaign games. Anyway, I am having intermittant trouble loading BotG games from GC. The only fix is to delete BotB and reinstall it. This used to happen once i...

Re: Play balance
A modified trip down Memory Lane: A simple solution would be reduce or time out VPs for objectives on the eastern half of the map, especially St Vith and Bastogne. For example, the historical German "Long Solution" objectives, the Meuse, Liege, and (good grief) Antwerp were set by Hitler. ...

Re: Reinforcing / Retreating
Ah, a question for Mr Butterfield. My point is I wouldn't change it, and if I did, I would trigger a counterattack in both circumstances.

Re: Reinforcing / Retreating
So the combat model invokes an automatic counterattack (CA) if the defender attempts a partial retreat from an area, but no CA if the area is completely abandoned. I like it this way. A more complicated system would require a rearguard to facilitate the withdrawal in either circumstance, perhaps as ...

Re: Reinforcing / Retreating
A magic button(!) for retreat/reinforce. A nonstarter of an idea for BotB, which would drastically change gameplay. As the game plays now, you have to do things large, go in or get out 100%, with little opportunity to optimize after the fact, without usually facing some considerable risk, although t...

Re: Graphical glitch using new patch
Hi Jeff
Your trick worked. I don't lock my screen orientation, but moving the switch turns off the lock which I'm assuming BotB puts on orientation. So I sent another report with text about the shadow glitch.

What I should say, is I have managed to get the report bug window to fire up, but the virtual keyboard is locked so I can't type in any additional info.

BTW I couln't get the bug report window to fire up from within the game, which is another issue that has creeped up more than once.

Re: Graphical glitch using new patch
That's exactly the bug I've gotten this morning. So far I can't shake it loose. I have seen it before the current build, only once. And so has Dave Hoeft.
