Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues

Lots of passionate discussion! My two cents worth: 1) Loss of an entire airborne corps should really be shocking, more than just a PP cost/benefit trade-off. Perhaps if an airborne corps is destroyed when it is more than 3 hexes away from other friendly land units, the loss should be a Permanent red...

Re: Modifying scenario staticstics

Thanks for the clarification!

I was not too ambitious, I just wanted to give the AI some advantage, eg 1000 pp or a strong manpower pool.

This was easy to do with the guides on this site!

Re: U.S. Industrial Production Too Low?

I have certainly noticed that in the 1943 and 1944 scenarios there tends to be a huge wave of air strikes from the endless TAC units in the first couple of turns. This then settles down as nobody can afford to rebuild all those TAC's back to full strength for the rest of the game. It certainly begs ...

Re: Modifying scenario staticstics

The problem was that there are two files with the same name in the "Scenario" folder: One (the wrong one) with ".data" ending, the other (the good one) with".scn" ending. Perhaps add that clarification to the guidelines!

Many thanks,

Re: Modifying scenario statistics

Thanks for the tip.

Notepad and Notepad++ yielded odd symbols plus recognizable words at the bottom of the file where the guide says the country data should be:

HxD yielded columns of hexadecimal, but nothing resembling the numbers in the guide.

I will try Ultraedit and confirm.

Re: Modifying scenario staticstics

I have tried to edit the scenario file for GS3.10, but i can't see the numbers listed in the guide: I only get gibberish.

I have tried with Notepad, Notepad++ and HxD.

Is there some setting that I am missing?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Re: At which point should I stop attacking?

I am impressed by the very thoughtful replies already posted, so I will only add my simple rule of thumb: - If the expected combat results show you only taking one hit point, it is probably worth attacking solely for the sake of XP. - If the expected combat results show 2 or more hit points, you may...

Re: Control of the Azores airbase

As an interesting follow-up, playing as the Allies against the AI, I DOW'd a lot of countries so they would become Axis allies, to help the AI. When I DOW'd Portugal as the Allies, in the next turn the Allies still seized the Azores. I don't know if this is a positive strategy on the whole, but it i...

"Handicap" for challenging play against the AI

I am elaborating on a thread that was a little misplaced over on the Modding discussion. The AI is woefully inadequate, but giving it a large advantage can simply be an exercise in frustration as you are overrun with hoards of enemy troops while not having enough PP's to do anything yourself. Instea...

Re: Bug? German supply after surrender of Finland

Stauffenberg,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I agree that it doesn't affect game play: The German unit can't go anywhere, and is not likely to take Leningrad any time soon.

It just seemed strange...although you've probably seen stranger!

Bug? German supply after surrender of Finland

See snap attached: Playing Allies against the AI, I forced Finland to surrender.

However, surviving German unit seems to stay in supply forever?

Gog,

Thanks for your prompt and definitive reply. At least I know I'm not missing something.

...so why not? How exactly does the US seize control?

Oh well, I guess there is enough Europe to conquer...

Re: Axis Strategic Decision Tree

Rojas, Very interesting effort! I like the options being put on the table, with level of risk. Perhaps you could elaborate the pros/cons in terms of some of the game's key strategic considerations, such as: - Oil reserves: Spending oil on many campaigns means not enough for Barbarossa - Manpower res...

Re: Conquer Leningrad in 1st turn of 41 Barbarossa in 3.1 ea

IMHO, a DOW on Sweden is way more trouble than it is worth. The Axis already get half the resources, so you fight a very strong army in tough terrain for low extra production in a non-strategic part of the map. Even if you pull it off with minimum casualties, you probably spent too much of your prec...

Control of the Azores airbase

As the Axis player, if I DOW Portugal (long story), after my turn I get the following message (war event): "The United States seizes control over the Azores airbase because Portugal is attacked." As the Axis player, how could I take control of the Azores on the turn I DOW to prevent US con...
