Advance after combat

Is there a way of preventing the units to advance after combat? The auto advance after combat, is so far the only mechanics of the game that I don't like. The units often advance to a suboptimal positions and expose themselves to a counterattack. This becomes a problem especially in the congested, urban battles. I don't think that player should be forced to advance, if he doesn't wish to do so.

There is no such mechanic.
Are you just clicking too much and moving into the space with a move action?
Yea, one click to attack. Clicking again is issuing a move order. This is one of the advancements over the old game. You don't have to wait for combat or animations to finish before issue new orders.

OK thanks. It seems I've been over clicking. The mouse is wonky and slow to respond in the game.
