Hullo and HELP!

Well, finally signed up as my army starts to get assembled. The Ancients players have dragged me back in and away from FoW at my club. FoG convinced me to actually invest in my own army - and 4 months after buying it I am getting round to the dreaded painting.

So, Hi y'all and I have one question on the army lists.

In various places certain units are described as upgrades. Do these units count against the either maximum or minimum limits for their base type (the troops they are an upgrade from) or is the description literally just context rather than rules?

Thanks
Tim

Yes. They count as taken from the original entry line. So if the original line said:

"Spearmen - MF - Average - Protected - drilled - - - Lt Spear - - - BG 6-8 - Total 6 - 16"

and the upgrade:

"Upgrade Spearmen - HF - Superior - Heavily Armoured - drilled - Bow - Lt Spear - Swordsmen - BG 4-8 - Total 0-8"

(if only)

If you took all 8 of the upgrade you would not have to take any from the original line (you have taken more than the minmimum 6). You could also only take a maximum of 8 from the original line along with the 8 upgraded

But seeing Porky Elf getting his chips was worthwhile.

Elves, we hates them - especially most of the rugby ones ...

Thanks for the info :)

I assume therefore that the same answer holds true for those units where the term 'Replace..' is used instead of 'Upgrade..' or 'Downgrade...'

Yes pointless arguments are irritating. It's "Elves" BTW.

Aside from Legolas himself, there were no elves at Helm's Deep :P

Not in Tolkien, anyway. Given some of the other crap Peter Jackson did, who knows what happened in the movie?

Technically, pre-JRR Tolkien it was elfs and dwarfs - he hated that, and the "elfs" bit was associated more with fairies, and other miniature types. He created "Elves" for his statueque, lordly types - similar vein for "dwarfs" vs "Dwarves". Look in a really old dictionary.

Rather than a substantive comment I'll just refer matters Elvish and Dwarven that are FOG-related to http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/FoG_fantasy/
