Historicon tournaments commentary

Here are a few thoughts from the Historicon tournaments this past weekend.
First, I was very pleased that all games were (as far as I am aware) conducted in a real spirit of sportsmanship. I was never asked for a ruling of the "my opponent is being a jerk" kind, and in each of the limited number of times that I made a ruling it was accepted with good grace by all parties. I overheard a nearby table dealing with an erroneous army list, but I never heard about it in my capacity as referee. The issues raised were dealt with calmly and politely between opponents. Good work, people.
Second, there is a lot more frantic running around involved in organizing a tournament than I ever knew about as a player. Evening up the numbers right before the draw, re-doing the draw (when it turned out that a 25mm player had accidentally signed up on the 15mm sheet), evening up the numbers again (when one player had an emergency at his booth in the dealer area) . . . yipe! Thanks to Ethan for helping with all this. Also, a double extra big thanks to Doug Anderson and Chuck Hines for their willingness to float.
Third, I had a real hoot of a time and look forward to doing it again.
