Rules questions from 2nd game

2nd game last night. Went very well, though the game still takes quite a long time to play. We made a couple of mistakes that I will try not to make again. There were a couple of queries that came up though that I would like your opinions on…..
Feeding more bases into a melee. Trying to get it clear into my head when this happens. Example player A charges player B in impact phase. There is NO feeding of troops into battle in Player A’s Manoeuvre phase. So is the first time it happens the following player B’s Manoeuvre phase?
Restricted Area
We had a situation where a player wanted to turn a cav BG that was facing a cav BG face to face and within the restricted area, by 90 degrees. This seemed stupid (there was a complicated reason for doing it) and we did not think you would be allowed to do that. But checking the rules it said you can stay still, including turning and expanding but not contracting. So we allowed the chap to do the 90 degree turn. Was this right, it did not feel right!!
Shooting arc of fire and range.
The question that actually came up was if you have a BG of shooters firing to their front and a little to one side, where do you take the measurement from? If the front element facing the target is in range, are all shooting elements that are BEHIND or TO SIDE of the shooter also deemed to be in range. I believe the rules are clear for behind that yes they are. They do not seem so clear for to the side…
In addition whilst researching this in the rules I don’t understand the diagram on page 83. The shooters appear to be within effective range and yet shooting with 2 elements to the side. The text on page 82 seems to say that you can fire with 1 element to the side not 2 if within effective range and 2 if outside effective range??
Elephant Death Roll
If an Elephant BG wona combat does it have a total modifer of +3 to it’s roll on the death roll?
General with broken unit
We had a 4 element cav unit with general fighting in front rank and 2 BG opponents. 2 elements were destroyed which meant the cav BG auto broke. The 2 BG’s pursued it and we removed the last 2 bases at the end of the turn. What about the general with it?? Is he removed if all elements of a BG are removed?
Pursuit Moves
Can I have a one liner on the spirit of pursuit moves. I will explain. Player A’s BG beats player B’s. B routs and is probably out of the game. Player A would like to bring his troops under control and attack something else as quickly as possible. There seems to be 2 rout moves in one turn on the 1st turn a BG routs? I am not clear how quickly you can get a winning unit back into action???
I must say the game went very smoothly, although nominally a 2 player game last night there were at least 5 people participating, everyone seemed pretty positive about the way the battle went.
