If a battle group of Light Foot has a battle group of Cavalry (two bases deep) directly behind them and in contact, can they retire 2" and maintain their facing?
The turn (pg 42) states "Turn 180 deg, move maximum of 2 MUs in a SIMPLE advance and turn back again"
Interpenetration (pg 49) states "if a battle group does not have sufficient move distance to pass fully through another battle group it can nevertheless pass completely through if there is room beyond and any of the following apply..."
One of the following notes did apply - therefore can the interpenetration rule be used to increase this distance of 2" move?

Clearly not, as their move would then be more than the 2MU maximum surely?

But the interpenetration bit states that you are allowed to move through even if you don't have the distance to do it?

Presumably the interpenetration rule (where it validly applies) modifies every type of move? This would include both moves involving a variable die roll and those involving an ostensibly fixed distance.

Yes, which is the pertinent point in question.

Yes, but it doesn't say you can then turn 180 again afterwards. So my reading of it is you can turn, interpenetrate and turn again if you move 2MU or less. But if you turn, interpenetrate and move more than 2MU, then you can't trun a second time.

Pg 40 also talks about the "maximum move distances" a BG can make. But this is over ruled by the interpenetration rules?

That sounds reasonable to me. Anything else and it looks like you are trying to stretch the rules. Never a good thing in my view.

Not stretching the rules. Just the movement distance

I'll regret asking.....but what benefit can you get from it?
Skirmishers can turn 180 and still do a full move.

You get to be pointing the right way. That enables you to turn and double wheel and stuff after you have turned 180.

No, the interpenetration rules tell you if the BG has "does not have sufficient move distance" it can nevertheless go through. so your LF can make the move. But they haven't met the conditions that allow them to make a second turn; which is that to make that complex move you can only move a maximum of 2MU.

OK - I can cope with that. Thanks Graham.

Sanity. Thank you Graham.
