Sniper units

I like how the sniper unit could introduce a new mechanic that can give variety to the game, currently its role is not very clear and seems like a useless addition.
I would like to see it work like the sniper ability that infantry sometimes get when leveling up. It will probably be overpower, so you could give a chance to hit instead of a sure kill. It could be as simple as depending on tile cover, 70% cover -> 30% chance of kill. 30% open cover -> 70% kill.

I agree...would like to see it more like the snipers in BA when infantry earns gold chevrons

Many infantry units still get the get a sniper ability when levelling up. The specific sniper units will be more useful (and expensive) in the next build.

Since they are 1 man units they better be pretty hard to spot or else they won't last long enough to be of use!

In the few games of BA2 that I have played thus far the sound effects for sniper units don't seem to be right. I expected a single rifle shot but in some if not all cases it sounds like a machine gun batallion is opening up.
