How about giving the option to dismount after movement

Allowing units with attached transport to dismount after moving would provide much more utility for these units - especially infantry and artillery. They would not be able to attack but at least they could fight as a combat unit (instead of a transport) and receive terrain bonuses if attacked. Right now if enemy armor sees your infantry unit on a transport, they make for it like a dog to a T-bone. Therefore in the late game it's much better to keep armor over infantry in your core, and armored artillery over towed. This makes elite replacements extremely expensive, and to be honest, has resulted in more than a few 'load Allied turn' replays ... for me at least.
Implementation would be simple. After moving the unit, give the option to dismount by hitting 'M'. If the unit is surprised by fog-of-war, then perhaps take away the option. No attack allowed after movement to simulate the disembarkation process. Perhaps add in a defense penalty as well, but at least allow the dismounted unit to use its native defense stat as well as terrain bonuses.
Understandably Panzer Corps is more beer-and-pretzels than a hardcore war simulation. But I've always wondered why infantry wouldn't just deploy after it reached its destination. After all I don't think the 101st Airborne just sat around in their trucks after reaching Bastogne.
It would still make sense to allow the option of letting units remain in their transports after moving as some transports offer better defense than the unit itself. Also armored artillery and AA would still be superior than towed transports as they could attack after moving, thus justifying their higher cost. I've been playing on Rommel difficulty lately and find it very enjoyable, but I find myself often leaving out units that depend upon transports as they're just too fragile and I can't afford the replacements until the next scenario.
