Minor issue: Air units v. tough vs. ground attack

My GS 2.0 game is winding down, and I want to report on an issue that came up that I don't think has been addressed in 2.1 yet.
In this game, the Allies have been in France for a while, and on 3 occasions my ground units got a chance to charge into Allied planes sitting on their bases on open terrain. These planes were all at maximum (6/6/6) tech.
1) A very strong SS mech unit (10 steps, Eff 85-100, tech levels quite good) charges into the fighter and does 6-7 points of damage.
2) A 10-step Korps unit attacks an 8-step Tac. Korps has Eff in the 80's, Artillery at lvl 5--very strong. Result: Korps inflicts 5 points of damage.
3) A Hungarian corps attacks a 10-step Tac. Hungarian has Eff in 60's and decent tech. Result: Tac loses 2 steps.
In none of these cases were any of the aircraft forced to retreat.
In at least cases 1 & 2 above, it seems to me that the air unit should have been eliminated. At the minimum it should have been forced to retreat.
I suspect that the problem is the super-high Effectiveness and Survivability of these units makes them so tough. I don't suppose this situation arises all that often, so maybe it's not worth trying to fix. What do you guys think?
