Im looking to paint an ECW collection up ready for when the rules are available so we can get playing it ASAP.
Any guide as to the number of troops or units of the required types would be great....
Also, a guide as to army composition for something in tricornes..... marlborough maybe?
Apologies if this isnt allowed, Im not trying to tease inside info, just want to get started painting so me and my gaming buds can play as soon as the rules/lists hit the doorstep!
cheers

Not sure if the rules cover much in tricornes. 1699/1700 is when I would expect the end date to be.
Have you played DBM or DBR before? In FoG:AM an army of 800 seems to take about 450 DBM points. I suspect that FOG:R will be similar - 450 AP of DBR.

cheers mate
thought the wss slipped into this period?
So if I got teh following:
For ECW
4 generals
8 units of foot (4 shot 2 pike)
4 units of cav
1 unit of cuirassier
4 cannon
8 bases of dragoons
then for the later period:
4 generals
8 units of foot of 6 bases of musket
6 units of cav
4 cannon
would this be enough to play games with as soon as the rules came out?
cheers

When you say unit do you mean bases (for example '4 units of cav' means 12 figures) or do you mean a unit is (say) 4 bases each of 3? If the latter you should be good to but I think you would need a few Pike (say 1 base per unit) as even the English were still using Pike in the WSS (I think the French had stopped by then). If the former it will be a bit small.

Somewhere in the forum posts below rbodleyscott gave a sample ECW army list you may want to have a look at. As timmy1 mentioned, that is in terms of bases (which are also explained somewhere in this forum).

I'd have to lie to do that, I'm afraid
1698 end date - it was decided that WSS would be stretching things too far (it was nearly capped at the end of the TYW).

is there anything similar in the rules then?
or it could be ECW and Wars of Religion only for me.............. surely not!

the War of the League of Augsberg armies will not look very different to WSS (indeed in many cases they will be identical) and the generals were often the same (other than William III who died before he could fight the WSS which he organised).

Just so you know, most infantry BGs in WoTLoA armies have 1 base of pikes and 5 bases of musketeers. There are also some BGs that are all musketeers with bayonet.
