Hey there. Anyone have any sources for me from which I could build an accurate Mongol Camp? I am currently planning on using 4 or so of Baueda's Mongol yurts with a odd horse archer or so as camp guards. Any other suggestions?

Baueda's the best I've come across - but pricey
I'd expect to buy half an army for what it'll cost you for the camp!

not really for me, living in South Africa EVERYTHING gets expensive with shipping. It ends ip costing me the same per tent as I pay for a pack of miniatures. They do look really awesome though thanks for pointing them out to me, any idea on how to model it? yurts and what else? I really don't just want a tent camp I like to make little diorama out of them, anybody have any descriptions of a camp or even pictures?

There are a number of illustrations of Mongol camps in the various Osprey books on the Mongols.
As well as the yurts, plate F in 'The Mongols' shows a camp fire with a large cooking pot over it, surrounded on one side by 5-6 feet high screens, possibly acting as a wind break. It also shows a group of unsaddled ponies.
The Campaign Book 'Kalka River' shows the scene where the Mongols placed a wooden platform on top of their Russian captives and proceeded to celebrate their victory by eating a meal on top of the platform while crushing their captives to death.
The latter would make an interesting, if somewhat gruesome, diorama.

Several movies have been made about Genghis Khan. One of my favorites is Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea. The movie starts with Temujin's birth and ends when he starts the invasion of China. In it, Temujin goes from very poor to very rich of course. It's cool to watch how his personal yurt changes through the movie. The "painting scheme" of the outside of the yurt changes and evolves through the movie.

You could probably get a lot of good ideas from the movie. I bought my copy from Belle and Blade (www.warshows.com).

I buy my Baueda tents through Magister Militum in the UK. Baueda charge 15 Euro postage to Oz where as Magister Militum charge a minimum of 5 pounds.

In Australia try a local supplier that can get them in bulk and distribute the international postage cost over many transactions eg Olympian Games. I think that in Aust its about $10 AUS for a single delivery to anywhere in aust so still advisable to combine with multiple purchases.

You cant have a mongol camp without a yurt.

Thats like having a feudal spanish camp without a heretic burning post.

I'm going to go with the platform Idea , anybody have links to a description of it...I can just see a whole lot of green stuff being used to make hands and arms stretched out underneath the platform

It was a closed box. The rulers were suffocated, as spilling their blood on the ground would be an insult to their status.

In the end I made a camp based on the Khans tent in the movie Nomad and others I saw in depictions of Genghis' tent as well as a description in Conn Iggulden's book Wolf of the Plains.

Here is thee final product:

Ger is made out of Pratley putty, Oxen and Wheels come from an Essex limber, Archer is Museum and the Fire by Irregular.

O yea...and the Wagon is cardboard . Now to decide on figures and then paint em up...decisions decisions decisions

Yes, we can see that . The model is great but the visible corrugated carboard edge of the wagon base does detract from the rest of the model. Could you not fill this in ?

Couldn't you just put some filler in it ?

It warps the carboard I think I will redo it with Balsa and an MDF base
