Double rear charge totally destroys full health unit?

I just had a suprising incident occur in a game.
I'm not sure why it happened.
Macedonian heavy cavalry charged in the rear by both gallic protected cav and protected heavy foot.
So, on the first rear hit, the macedonians drop a cohesion level (as per the rules in patch 1.2) and fight at a disdvantage.
Then the second hit, they drop another cohesion level to fragmented and again fight at a disadvantage.
Then, it disappeared from the map.
The Macedonians had no skulls to show damage before going into the combat.
I'm puzzled

P.S. Scenario was Invasion of Macedon.

If a unit has no path to rout through it will be destroyed.

İt happened during my games a lot of times!

Force the fragmented enemy forces to the edges, then they flee.

Sometimes even, only with one unit!

I believe a routing unit looses 25% for each enemy unit in contact when it makes its rout move. If it had little enough remaining strength, this would account for it disappearing, e.g. if it was at 50% or less strength and had 2 units in contact, it would disappear. (I'm not sure how the auto-break point works in the game for routers so the losses due to enemy in contact may only have to take the unit below the auto-break point.)
