Recently FOG2 Medieval was offered for free during the Steam Summer Sale.

I wonder if this might have been a marketing ploy to introduce people to the game, so as to increase the numbers of possible buyers of a new game, yet to be announced.

I never took a marketing class in college, so I might be mistaken. But if I was in charge of marketing a new FOG2, it's what I would do.

Any thoughts are welcome, especially from people familiar with marketing.

It may promote sales of the DLCs.

There's been no word on the next game other than it is under development, so I don't really see it as a tie in campaign.

Ancients was free on stream a year or two ago in a similar promotion.

Both games and their DLCs have been offered as bundle options by Fanatical maybe once a year or so.
