Freemen line of buildings

This is purely anecdotal, but seems to me that these specific buildings (mentoring hall, freemen cottages, tenant farm) that are supposed to tweak the chances of a new pop type spawn - don't appear to be working. In a playthrough basically all new pop growth seems to be peasants even with these buildings built.

Granted I don't know the exact formula, so if e.g. the cottages 25% doesn't mean 25 full percentage points change in the spawn chance but instead something like an initial chance of 1% ? growing by 25% then it might be working as intended ofc

I often build freeman cottages, both for the health bonus and the chance of getting more freeman.

I have not tried to calculate the percentages, but over the course of a long game I have had a significant number of peasants convert to freeman, without using an event, and only in regions that have freeman cottages. So it must be working to some degree.

Oh so it's not the spawn chance but a special event, ty I appreciate the info!

I believe the description says its a chance that new population will be freemen. I use it often myself and eventually you will see a region full of freemen. Takes time so don't expect immediate results.

Yeah, my current game of France and trying out Crusading is my longest @ ~ 80 turns. So many factions and game mechanics to try, and with new patches dropping - heh perhaps I'll see a full length game in a little while and then get to understand this type of stuff truly functions in the proper context 8)
