Army composition and points cap

I find the way the army composition works in the campaign somewhat odd:
Started a new campaign, finished the intro battle (exterminate X number of enemy units) and after the first cinematic I used a token to give my sergeant his first ability. So far, so good.
In the army composition screen, as far as I can tell, the only limit was the number of units I had and the max number (6/8). There is a point tally, but it seemed entirely irrelevant, i.e. I could (and did) pick 2 Aggressors, no constraints placed.
So, with 3 Aggressors, 1 Assault, 3 tactical and my sergeant (for a total of 685 points) I launched the campaign battle (Venomous Corruption). The battle loaded, whereupon for the first time I saw that there was an army limit of 600 points. All my units were deployed on the map.
When I pressed "proceed", I was told that my army composition was over the points limit. Which would be quite reasonable, had I any way of knowing that before deploying. Which means I will have to either play with 7 units (Assault and Tactical are 70 points apiece, not enough to go below the points limit) or leave an Aggressor behind. Or reload the last auto save, which takes me to the campaign map screen and pick an army with 8 units within the points cap.
So, I think it is imperative that the player knows before deploying what the upcoming battle's point cap is.
Also, I find that the way the player can recruit and dismiss fresh units, without expending any resources/prestige jarring. It "cheapens" the units, to have them appear and disappear like that, with no cost and no consequence.
Lastly, during deployment I could find no way of locating my "veteran" units, those that had participated in the opening engagement, which meant that I had 1/3 chances of leaving behind the Aggressors from the previous engagement, without having any way of avoiding that.
