Hidde is back today, so I think we'll continue the game as soon as possible.
Ready to continue the battle. If Hidde lives in Europe, it will be easy to play many turns by day. If not, I will try to stay awake late in the night.

That was my game against thesharpend how did you view the results? .. game was a lot closer than the points would indicate, very well played by thesharpend, I had a point where i almost broke through on the right side and would have been able to capture a few flags but he fell back and reinforced his positions. Very fun game we played.

So now what happens? we wait for everyone to finish?

I guess we are almost done then.

Next step will be Sailinguy posting the First Round results and pairings for SECOND round, which will be fought in the Desert as well (Desert Encounter scenario).

Kind of looking for the Normandy fields myself...Seems the Axis got pretty badly beaten so far in the North Africa campaign (quite historic nonetheless).

I agree with you, this first battle in Afrika was very bloody for Axis and many troops were whipped. Congratulations to rare winner as Axis Player.

Thanks for the info Captain! Nice and clear as usual.

There is a post from Sleet (4 days ago) saying they were in the first turns and once again, the Allied Flag was proudly holding the Fort.

What do you guys think?

(Possible choices - Please vote)
1 - Proceed to next round only after all games in previous round are completed.
2 - Proceed to next round after all games but one in previous round are completed.
3 - Proceed to next round after half of all games in previous round are completed.
4 - Start each round on a fixed timetable (regardless of status of previous rounds).
4a - Start a new round each Sunday (ie one per week).
4b - Start a new round on the first and third Sunday (ie two per month).
4c - Start a new round on the first Sunday (ie one per month).
5 - Proceed to next round based solely on decision by Tournament Directors.

We don't want to let people get too far behind, some can only play 1 or 2 turns a day. But then again we don't want to hold up the entire tournament over 1 game.. so I would have to go with "5"

My two cents: Seems to me that joining a tournament of any sort implies a higher level of interest (or passion) for the particular game, and that it is not too unreasonable to expect a certain level of committment from the players. Submitting two turns per day would allow for even a 20 turn scenario to be completed in 14 days, plus some slippage to a few one turn days. If a player doesn't feel their time permits this, then they should simply play more casual mp games. It seems a tad unfair to the other players in the tournament field who have made the effort to complete their games in a timely way to be held back for an open ended length of time. Virtually any kind of tournament has time constraints.

So, after that long winded oratory, I vote for 4b.

Hope I haven't offended anyone -- certainly no offense intended.

Crestone, I agree with most of your statement, although I definitely consider this game to be a casual MP game (specially compared to what you can see out there). I also expect from people who join a tournament to have a bit more commitment to the game since that choice is a voluntary one, and everyone knows how much time they are willing (or simply can) put into it. Finnally, i don´t think you have offended anyone with your argument. Well developed.

One of the strong points of this tournament is that allows the play of multiple rounds at the same time without too much influence on the other games being played. It can lead to some bottlenecks when the slower players have several games pending at the same time though.

I definitely don´t think putting some pressure on people is going to make it work better (we might scare away some players) but on the other hand, I don´t think taking six months to complete the tournament is a viable way to go (we will see a lot of drops outs in this way I am afraid, as can lead to a very boring experience)

Half way in between might be the best choice. But as a Tournament Director I prefer to hold my vote and go with the majority as proposed by Sailinguy.

Please vote your choices folks.

Good points from earlier posters and I agree with most of it. If a tournament is not too big and expected to be over within a reasonable time a player should be able to predict if he (or she... :shock: ) is available for the duration. That been said, there is always unforseen happenings one can't predict so any fixed time limit must be generous.
I belive a fixed time limit is not desirable. Better to have, say 14 days as a goal and then let the directors decide the solution if any problem arise.
A combination of 4b and 5 gets my vote, then.

I'd go for 4a - start a new round each Sunday; possibly with a deadline of getting as far as you can in 2 maybe 3 weeks after the last game's started. That way we keep a momentum going and know who's in the Final in 6 - 7 weeks.

If I've got this right each player will be playing every player in the opposite flight once with no round allocations based on previous result. So in theory you could make the draw of who's playing who in each round now. If you started releasing the pairings now for the next round and on subsequent Sundays the maximum games a person would have is 5 - all at various stages and assuming you hadn't managed to finish off your earlier games. If you then gave the 2 or 3 week period I think most people, even if they are playing 1 turn/game/day, would be close to completing all games. At that point you could total up the points in all games, including the unfinished ones, to find out top player in each flight who can then battle out the final. Hope that makes sense.

Cheers
