now that my copy of Wolves of the Sea is about a month from arriving in Oz I have two questions.
1. Is the release date of the 10th of Feb still on track?
2. about how many armoured or protected cavalry bases will be in the list?

As far as I know, yes.
2. about how many armoured or protected cavalry bases will be in the list?
18. The proportion of these that can be armoured varies at different dates.

So Romano-British, sub-Roman British, Arthurian British, Post-Roman British are 4 different terms for the same thing, correct?

Pretty much, except that the 3rd occupies only a small part of the period. (Assuming that he existed at all).

Yes, sir, understood. I was actually referring to the various names used by manufacturers of figures. I was looking at Warweb.com's Old Glory listings, and they use the phrase
"Arthurian Britians' (sic)
Black Hat (who make all of three) say
Sub-Roman
Splintered Light say
"Romano-British/Sub-Roman British"
etc, etc, ad nauseam

firstly, RBS thank for the information - it sounds the list maybe reasonably complex due to time peroids and covering the kingdoms and warlords plus you have the Arthur factor to deal with.
Possum, I am with you this use of multiple terms to cover the the Post Roman period in Britian. Who thought of the term sub-Roman it has to be the confussing term out? As to me sub means "below or under" not after. Personally every time I see the term sub Roman I first think of Pre-Roman and then I have to remember they mean Post Roman.

Will the Brits be allowed a Roman Ally?
I don't think my Brits will make 800 points by themselves

John,
I do not know about using the Romans as British allies but you can use your Romano British as Armorican Allies for the Romans see page 76 Legions Triumphant.
At a Guess if you take all 18 cavalry and assume 55% armoured /45% protected and all superior that comes to 256pt and if you take an IC and 3 TC that is another 185pts. This leaves 359pt to spend given that your best infantry will cost about 6pts which means you are going to need 59 bases of HF. Of course there could some LF and LH for variety. From what the guys have said in the forum it sounds like you need a Hill Top Fort load lt spearmen to do a Romano British army.

I guess we'll have to wait and see when our pre-orders arrive. Maybe there will be something cool like Pictish allies.

There are 4 allies available to the Post-Roman British.
However, as we are so close to publication I think I'll let you sweat on that info until you've got your books

Hmm, four...
Some kind of Saxons, maybe?
Picts?
Tuatha de Danaan?

Cu Chulain and the Red Branch?
It's going to be a month before I see my copy of WFTS

I would guess
Saxon,
Pict
Scots Irish
The forth one is the toughie Romano British ally from a different kingdom /warlord or Vikings??? maybe as my history of period is not that good a continental ally that would be interesting! but very very very unlikely.
My real question is given most of the infantry is going to be HF protected, average, undrilled, lt spear, swordsman what size makes the best battle groups?

That rather depends on what the list allows.

Comparison with Another List suggests two flavours of Roman (depending on date), Saxons and, for those who have decamped to Little Britain, Alans.
Best wishes,
Matthew

Keep going, nobody has got it right yet.
BTW it is 4 allies from other lists - you can also have "internal" PRB allies.
