I reset up the matchup with phlewis as I was given the wrong Visigoth army (should have been 419-621). I conceded this match to avoid any confusion. The new match details:

Bluefin (Visigoth 419-621 AD) vs phlewis (Sarmation 25-375 AD with Germanic Horse Tribes (260-492)

Holien wrote: Sun Oct 24, 2021 10:58 am As I have never seen this before, can a player unilaterally end a game with the system?

I thought I had seen a feature to end a game that was abandoned but I thought there was a time limit to allow the other player to respond?

If the original game / map is still available could that be continued? (from the way the message is written it seems that is not possible...)

Either way some bad blood has been created and lunarfoxx should not have done it without your agreement. The fact that he might or might not live in Upstate NY, that he might be a native english American speaker is neither here or there and even if he can type well he seems to have missed the key phrase "players may agree"

Useful rule to know about - who reads rules... :)
I don't know how he ended the game as it was my first turn after selecting and placing troops, he played first turn. Message report "Macedonian Victory! The enemy surrendered". I have a screenshot if you need (but i don't know how to upload...) so it is not possible to continue the battle.
The games have always been set by me correctly according to the rules (there is also someone who reads the rules...) and I have never had any problems with other players. (I played 8 games in the biblical league I set 4 battles; 9 in Classical Antiquity I set 4 battles; 8 in Classica Antiquity I set 5 battles)
For the rest, lunarfoxx candidly admitted that for him the map was unfavorable I am attaching the first answer received today from him:
"Re: DL 12 CA DIV F

OK, I sent a message to stockwellpete about it. Of course you liked the map, you were sitting on a hill to start, no way i'm attacking that and I know if you are smart you aren't coming down off the hill. That set-up is heading for a draw and the reason you restart because of terrain. I'll wait to see what stockwellpete has to say about it."

after he read the replies he sent me a second private message:
"I guess I messed up
Sent: 24 Oct 2021 15:23
From: LunarFoxx
Recipient: mh5064
I heard back from stockwell and the way it is written I did mess up. I didn't know the exact wording but I figured there is no way someone would give up a huge map advantage + thought that was way the rule was in there that you could do 2 restarts within 1st 3 rounds. Well my bad so u are right to be upset so I'm just waiting for stockwell to tell me how we mark it - prob just a 40-0 win
-LunarFoxx"

for completeness of information I also report my private messages sent to lunarfoxx:

Why do you resign the battle?
I did not answer you "ok let's do it".
I do not agree to restart the match cause the map is fine.
You can not says "I don't known about this terrain. I might wanna redo this" and the resign without my answer only cause you do not like the map.
RULE 4 is "Match - Players may agree to re-start a match within the first three turns if they believe the terrain is likely to produce a sterile match or a draw. The maximum number of re-starts permitted for a single match is two."
the meaning of "players may agree to re-start a match..." is not like "a player who can unilaterally re-start a match..."
and only "if they believe the terrain is likely to produce a sterile match or a draw" not cause you do not like the map!
I reported this to the organizers.

No, that is wrong. There has to be agreement between the two players.
Is that new this season? My recollection for past seasons is different. Otherwise, I owe Kerait an apology in our Biblical division match. I was unwilling to play the Chen horse army in very constricted mountainous terrain that favored an infantry defense.

More to the point, now that the Digital League offers cash-equivalent prizes from Slitherine, I fear there will be matches where one side is sorely disadvantaged and their opponent will have no motivation to consent to different terrain, forcing the play of an unfair game.

No, it has been the rule since August 2018 (Season 3).

The FOG2DL has always offered cash equivalent prizes - from Season 1 onwards. I see no need to change. If the terrain favours one side then the disadvantaged player does not need to attack and can ask for a new map. If the answer is "no" then it is a 0-0 result, not a defeat.
