I've got my DBA army's worth of SL and quite a few of their heavy foot. IMO it is a bit of a shame how many of their figs are so heavily armoured, but I think your approach is quite a good one. In my case, the BGs will mix armour types to represent an average rating of 'protected'. I've chosen less well armoured OG15s figs to help that balance a bit.

I do love those SL Wolftail warriors in particular though and have to admit giving them their own BG with ratings to reflect their look has a lot of attraction!

I am also mixing SL armoured and unarmoured infantry in BGs to create protected infantry, personally I think they look great like that. The wolftail warriors are good but I have not decided how to use them yet.

David from Splintered Light here. I am planning a post-Roman army and like Vincent, am going to use the Crested Helm and Wolftail warriors for Domitian allies so the armor should be fine. I am going to mix the regular helmed armored guys in with the non-armored guys for the medium infantry. For the better cavalry, I am going to use the barded horses. Looking forward to getting these painted up and on the table!

Hi just a quick note for Arthurian players considering fig options:

I ordered a mix of LR and Arthurian (LR and AB) codes for my spear and horse. They were all much of a muchness, some slight differences in the AB ones but you'd really have to hunt them out. Nice models IMO (well apart from that all chain armoured heavy cav guy) but definitely uniform late roman in look rather than 'dark age'. I was ordering the AB codes 'blind', since only the LR have pics.

It's a real shame there aren't proper Spear troops in the Pst-Roman Brit list, because my stands of spear armed Wolftails from SL are definitely my pick of the fig mix I have.

Still, 3.5 BGs of Spear painted, one of LH and one of Lancer Cav, not too bad for a bit over a week
