This thread has been the only one that has given me any hope of learning how to make the campaign editor work. I really need something like the scenario editor manual. I have a bunch of scenarios completed that I want to compile into a campaign but I cant figure out where to start.
I have begun work on a Campaign Editor Manual. It will take a while but when it is ready, I will provide a link to it in in the 10th post of the thread that Erik pointed to above. It will look much like my Scenario Editor Manual but may not be as comprehensive because I, too, am still learning about campaign editing.
In a nod to the true maestro around here, I am going to use Erik's New Britain campaign as the basis for screenshot examples. This is a well-designed campaign by Erik but its other virtue is that it's relatively short!

I made a "down payment," the first 10 pages. See the thread and post that I mentioned above. More will come soon.

Another installment has been added and it's now up to 25 pages, about 80% done. Will finish it soon.

Bruce, both of your manuals/guides - for the scenario and the campaign editor - are well done and
shouldn't be hidden within some intricate thread mumbo-jumbo as it is now.
There're no editor manuals provided with the stock game and the only stickied "Scenario Editor Manual (Draft - by uran21)" thread inside the
"Design & Modding Guides" is outdated, with many pictures missing already. Are you able as an admin, to "stickie" your manuals to a separate thread there somewhere yourself? If not, I'll give Adam a PM suggesting exactly this.
The unit navigator got its own thread, so should these - in the scenario design sub-forum, at least.

Bruce can you give us a link to where you put the campaign editor manual at?

It's in this thread, scroll down:

I believe I'll have it finished sometime this weekend.
Gabe, thanks for the thoughts but even if I had the capability of stickying my own thread, I would not presume to do so. It's fine where they are but the one thing I am tempted to do is to edit the OP (that, I can do) to link to my two editor manual posts.

Bru, I think it would be fine to edit the original post and add your editor links there.
I did something similar with the cheat thread way back.

Yes, please - that may be enough, you're right.
And no need for modesty here, it's good work, just do it.
Or are you planning to go with "I will provide a link to it in in the 10th post of the thread that Erik pointed to above" every time?

Sold. I don't think uran21 will mind and I don't think adherbal will even notice.
Almost done, by the way. One more section to go. 33 pages so far.

The best way to create a custom campaign is to duplicate one of the official ones, preferably with the same core nation(s).
Then replace the official scenario folders with your own custom ones, rename the campaign folder, edit the txt in the text_english file and finally open the campaign in the campaign editor.
You should be able to edit the information here to suit your own campaign.
There is no campaign manual that I know about, but it is fairly easy to use despite a few quirks.
Good luck!
I guess you have already check this thread.

Maybe this is not the best thing to do but it seems to work - Let say you are making a campaign and it has on 4 scenarios in it and you have then all linked together meaning when you play 1 it goes to the 2nd scenario then the 3rd and 4th but then you play test the campaign and lets say you want to change something in scenario number 2 what is great is you simply click on Editor
and run the Scenario Editor the main thing is that since the 2nd scenario is the one you want to tweak you need to first
- go to the campaigns folder and copy and paste that 2nd scenario into the scenarios folder this way you are then editing the actual 2nd scenario that you want to edit; furthermore, in the event you already have an older version say of this 2nd scenario in the scenarios folder - delete it first.
So then you as we have said you copy the scenario the 2nd one that needs tweaking from the campaign folder that has the 2nd scenario you just played that needs tweaking and you copy it into the scenarios folder this way when you open the Scenario Editor it will "see" it because the scenario editor only looks in the Scenarios folder - does not look anywhere in the campaign folder (only the campaign editor does this ) anyway what is great you simply just edit the scenario and save it of course.
Now the issue is the corrected tweaked scenario is in the scenarios folder and the old version that you wanted to edit is STILL in the campaign folder inside the scenarios folder in the campaign folder so go there and delete the older version and then copy and paste (from the scenarios folder) the new version into the campaign folder.
This seems to work for me.
What also works is I can for example have saved a game file while playing scenario number 3 when play testing the campaign they I can edit scenario 4 and then can go back and load the saved file of scenario 3 start the campaign there and continue to play test and then move onto the newly edited scenario 4 this works for me too.
A final thing to do though is to saved a backup of the entire Campaign which has the scenarios folder in it and save it for example when you have two scenarios in it then save this and then when you make a third scenario in the campaign then back up the entire campaign again and save this to another location that way if you mess something up you can simply use a backup that has the last 4 or last 5 or last 6 scenarios you made. ...

Last night was very exiting...
I tried out to add a scenario to an existing campaign and with the help of this topic and the nice "Campaign Editor Manual" it works fine. Thanks for making this!
Neck breaking moment was to add the outcome points to every scenario at the "branch tree". You have to click and hold the mouse on the top right area of the "Branches workflow panel" where you can choose the outcome or the next scenario and put in on the next branch at the branch tree. It was like "try and error"....
