I also like the way melees are dealt with compared to FOG. In P+S there are not the wild swings, or bizarre outcomes, that are quite regular in FOG; melee-ing is much more attritional and this makes the game much more realistic, in my view. And Sengoku Jidai takes this system one big step further on with a "command and control" system that was sorely lacking in FOG. I haven't really got any gripes now . . .

although I suppose the horse units could throw up clods of mud instead of dust from time to time.

Like Pete I am also beginning to be won over by this game. I am a veteran of FOG digital, playing it from its inception, but I feel P&S does have a more honest less gamey feel to it. I am really looking forward to Richard's AM version!
Also I notice there hasn't been anything resembling a league or competition played recently for P&S. Has the game died a bit since its launch? Are many people still playing?
PS. Richard, at the risk of Iain 'killing you'

. Do you have a rough eta for AM FOG2 beta/launch? Are we talking weeks, months or years?

There seem to be quite a few people playing, Ian. I put 4 open challenges up last night and they were all taken in an hour or so. I am currently playing Anders (hidde) and Mike (Triarius) is about too so you can join in with us.

FOG advantage is that we can play 30 games at once without getting tired and, sometime, without big thinking
However, I admit that P&S/SJ are excellent games and I take great pleasure to play them. Of course, I'm such a newbie...

I agree with all these even the lack of mud clods

, I find overall P&S much more satisfying.
I think MP is likley a little slower due to the fact that the single player game rocks, with challenging AI, a campaign style game and the skirmish games offering hosts of battle types and parameters you can tweek for infinite challenge. I have slowed in MP a bit (actually a crawl!) w P&S due to work and I joined a campaign game and short tourney in FOG. I kinda find it hard to "switch" moods between systems!
