On positive side game is great you can stop the soft cap and have great fun. When your ready you can try with soft cap completing 1945 is great achievement with soft cap and can be done.

For those that want try build up money in early years think before upgrading plan well, you can do it and feel good for been one of few who has.

As for Slitherine yeah I wish they sort soft cap out, but credit where its due the game has lots settings to adjust fit the level you are, they spend lot years working on this game and still adding new, I sure one day someone have an idea how to make soft cap better will all be glad.

So just enjoy at your speed, have fun try soft cap when ready not so bad if you know and plan.

Personally I find the increasing cost is sufficient deterrent to gratuitous overstrength - a 15 strength unit costs double the price of a 10 strength one and is 60% more than a 12 strength unit. Since the first point of damage comes off the most expensive point of strength, you'd better have a good reason for spending so much prestige.

Soft cap as a concept is OK, but it should be more transparent and probably should be different in each campaign (like max experience). I reckon it would be easier rather than using the average - which is hard to work out when deploying units - and would be better if it was just total cost. I have 5,000 points to spare before the cap comes in, do I use my 12 strength Tiger 2 or a pair of Panzer IV J? is a much easier question for the average gamer to think through.

It would also be easier to manage through a "soft cap on or off" switch (as with Reform units) and a slider control - max prestige setting could be tied in with difficulty. Even better, it would give scenario designers another tool to make individual scenarios or campaign paths a bit more challenging or a bit more manageable.

What is the cheat code for doing this?

Sélect an unit. Then click on icon I. Then click on the info tab of the unit down below the stats of the unit, a popup will show. Enter prestige 500 and you will get 500 extra prestige.

Aha! So if I understand correctly, there is no way to disable the soft cap without disabling the new rules altogether. Has anyone experimented with using the prestige slider to offset the soft cap bug? Now that the slider is available on iPad, that's another option.

You can disable the sofcap alone by editing the configurations files from the game. It's not difficult at all. Just go to the folder where you installed Panzer Corps, then to the "Data" folder and open the file "gamerules.pzdat" using notepad or any text editor of your choice. Search in the file for the line "UseSoftCap 1" and change the 1 to 0. Save the file and voila softcap is off in the new rule set.

Can I do that on the iPad version? If so, what is the procedure?

Tarrak, thanks very much for the reply. I have the iPad version though so... I don't mind the soft cap to be honest, but it appears that from everything I have seen that it is bugged. Could you let us know of the situation or of a coming fix for this? It seems to be a pretty major problem for the Grand Campaign as Mulleto mentioned.

Really I'd like to just play fair and normal with any soft cap bug fixed.

Sorry guys as far i know on the IPad you are sadly out of luck. I don't own one tho so i am not sure. If you can navigate to the installation folder of the PC App and can change files there it should in theory work the same way but considering Apples "Walled Garden" approach i doubt you will be able to do that. It may be possible with a jailbreak tho.

Doh, then... what about word on a fix for this soft cap bug/issue? :(

I would have preferred a unit core composition limit, that allowed types to swap. So you could field your 90 tanks without penalisation but you'd lose the ability to use other, more useful units.

So as someone coming back to the game after a long time is it best to use the 1.2 rules but turn off the softcap in the files manually before I start playing? Thanks.

1.20 rules are superior to the 1.14 rules, definitely.

I have never personally noticed the effects of softcap (although I have been well aware that it is around), but turning it off is fine if you don't like it.

It took me a while to get used to the 1.2 rules but I now reckon they are far better that the 1.14 version - except for the Soft Cap, which I switched off as soon as I found out how.

There are several threads on prestige management from about 2 years ago - they are useful at all levels, and probably much more important if using soft cap.

Incidentally, I'd heard that the Soft Cap calculation error had been corrected in V1.24. I'm sure there's been a few discussions on this since Sea Lion came out.

Emoni wrote:I also noticed the Chess dice mention of random battle results, but how is that different than normal?
Chess means you always get the projected combat results. Chess dice allows some random variation from the projections, but not as much as the normal setting.

Thanks for the info... from some forum research it looks like Softcap bug is actually still there. So I think I need to turn it off if I'm gonna do the 1.2(4) rules set. I like the idea of a soft cap on PP but not if it's overly/broken restrictive and can ruin the mid/late game. Maybe they'll fix it for the next release?
