eric (Polybians) 40/52 vs hidde (Pyrrhic) 51/48

Well I honestly believed I would lose this. At the beginning I thought I was in a very good position but then advanced a bit to close to Anders' pikes on the right hill. The centre though and the battle over the small hill would be mine. Not to be as a solitary pike managed to beat a superior triarii and do enough damage to 2 others so they were easy prey for his fellow pikes. On my left I had the Aitolian ally guarding some areas of ditches and broken goround once more in front of some of Anders hoplites and the dreaded Galatians.

I lost the centre while on my right, anarchy charges on both sides gave me the chance as pikes were facing 2 units or the elite triarii unit (following up into it after routing a legion) and then weight of numbers prevailed. Whereas on the left the AItolian ally gen stood in the middle of the battle line and in clear ground when the Galatians and hoplites attacked (the hoplites had just destroyed some Spanish scuatrii (anarchy) and followed up into more broken ground and then were charged by the waiting Aitolian mf. Hidde had to send in his Galatians and other hf to protect these wich proved costly as 4 or 5 hoplite units and 4 or 5 Galatians had been routed with the pike general for only a few losses to me. The Aitolian ally fought incredibly well, even being disrupted for most of the battle until he finally died. IN that time he had helped to protect his mf from Galatian charges and by then the Aitolains mf had the big advantage some or all were fighting in disordering terrain against Anders' HF.

A very tough game, Anders had had a good lead for some time but we managed to catch up and fianlly overtake. If he had had mf in his army, I would have probably lost this by a bigger margin.

Well that's all of my games finished. It probably proved taht the Mid Republics were the better army. Thanks very much to everybody and in particular Lysimachos for organising this.

Cheers

Eric

hidde (Pyrrhic in Greece) 26/47 vs Lysimachos (Gallic later lowland) 62/52

Fourth time lost initiativ. Fourth time a dessert map with lots of hills, steep hills and some woods.
However, I mostly managed to avoid fighting in rough terrain and the little there was went pretty well since I had uphill advantage in most cases.
Fierce fighting all along the line but the pikes withstood the impact in a good way. Even so, many of them were exhausted towards the end and the numbers are flattering for my side.

Hi all, these are the actual standings:

10 pts. Ericdoman1 (5/0/0) (+136)
2 pts. Hidde (1/0/1) (+16)
2 pts. Lysimachos (1/0/2) (-46)
0 pts. Batesmotel (0/0/2) (-36)
0 pts. Triarius (0/0/1) (-30)
0 pts. Morbio (0/0/1) (-40)

Ericdoman1 is the winner of the Tournament but we have still to complete the other matches in order to fulfill the roster and, given that Morbio and Triarius are probably on holidays, it will take some more time.

Triarius (Pergamene) 27/47 vs Batesmotel (Macedon) 52/51

This was decided by the Macedonian poor dice - the phalanx could not win a combat or pass a cohesion test which given they were also overly anarchic heading off in droves into a narrow gap tween river and trees made for a winning combination for Pergamene.

Lysimachos (Gallic) 48/55 vs Triarius (Attalid) 50/49

I would like to say that this victory was due to brilliant generalship and clever maneuvering but, to be honest, I must admit that average HF defeated superior HF only thanks to protracted better dice rolling.
Wich I invite everybody to drill with before any battle given the fact that the actual FoG mechanism greatly depends from this feature! :-D

hidde (Pyrrhic in Greece) 39/48 vs Triarius (Attalid Pergamene) 53/50

When it was time to storm the hill with rough terrain everywhere on top, the standing was 2/48 vs 31/50.
Without a lead like that it would never have worked...

Game vs Morbio pretty well advanced. Morbio back and playing.
Game vs batesmotel at turn 9. Lots of maneuvering and no fighting yet to speak of.

I guess Morbio never posted his win.

Morbio: Later Carthaginians 46/57
batesmotel: Later Macedonians 48/43

The dice force has definitely not been with me and the Macedonians in this tournament :-(

Morbio: Later Carthaginians 55/48
Triarius: Attalid Pergamene 52/54

A game where the dice favoured me and helped make it a very close match, however the strength of the cavalry, pikes and heavy impact foot overcame the spears and medium impact foot of carthage. If only I'd remembered to select very crowded!

Well played Triarius!

hidde (Pyrrhic in Greece) 20/48 vs Morbio (Later Carthaginians) 57/57

Same map as in the game against Triarius... and the battle progressed more or less the same!

Lysimachos (Gallic) 26/55 Morbio (Carthaginian) 59/57

The match saw an initial maneuvering with the armies turning from a south - north direction into a east - west one, due to the Carthaginians trying to keep the battle on hilly, rough terrain, but in the process they lost their camp and also morale while the Gallic cavalry and HF managed to take a sufficient number of MF in the clear winning a decisive advantage.

hidde (Pyrrhic in Greece) 36/47 vs batesmotel (Later Macedonian) 54/51

Classic push & shove contest. More HF on the Pyrrhic side can have been the decisive factor this time.
