Re: ”1st Six Nations Tournament – Polybian Contest”
I expected fate may have a hand in this.... Carthage is my particular favourite part of ancience history and I'm about to go on holiday to Tunisia and plan to visit the ruins of ancient Carthage, so this is quite apt reallyLysimachos wrote:Morbio (Later Carthaginian pre 235 BC)
I only wish their army was better
But we play the cards we are dealt, so I will just have to be as good as Hannibal (some chance

Just remember to sacrifice some infants while you're there for when the going gets toughMorbio wrote:I expected fate may have a hand in this.... Well Chris, here's my challenge: password macedon.
As barbarian Gallic Chieftains tend to be I'll show myself needlessly swashbuckling saying I'd really like to take the head of your Strategos and attach it to my chariot!

Hey Eric, you've been transformed from a gun to an airplane!
Maybe it means something for the outcome of the Tournament ..

yes, I'll be AFK from 20th July to 4th August. I'll try to do as much as I can between now and then and pick things up ASAP afterwards. I hope that's OK? If it isn't then drop me now (I won't be offended) and maybe I can catch the next onebatesmotel wrote:Will this mean you'll be out of touch for games during the tournament at some point? Chris

Hi L
Still wonder why we have no "ancient" avatars anymore?
Rather than using WWII avatars

Result
Morbio (Carthaginians) 70/57 vs Eric (Polybians) 19/46
Was a bit concerend at one stage as M had troops converging on my flank, coming up to my rear and a lot of hf on top of hills.
My reserve held out agst his flank attack and the main line took out the hf on the hill (armour was the big factor I reckon).

Lysimachos (Gauls) 45/52 batesmotel (Macedonians) 44/44
The match was hardly fought and narrowly won given the fact that the clash took place on rough terrain, minimizing the superior quality of the enemy HF, and thanks to the gallant dice rolling of some gallic units.

Not as convincing as it looks really. Mike's cavalry and cataphracts had smashed through my legions and a triarii or 2. If this had been about 2 turns earlier, he would be charging into the rear of my main line who were about to confront the fanatical Galatians.

eric (Polybians) 24/46 vs Lysimachos (Gallic Later Lowlands) 52/52
eric (Polybians) 26/52 vs Batesmotel (Later Macedonian) 46/43
In both of these games I was way ahead and cruising and then the fight back happened. However I was probably a bit more fortunate for the first few turns, and in both of the games luck had swung M's and Chris' way in the latter stages but the damage had been done.
