"A Duplicate Bridge Too Far" Tournament

Posted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:29 am
by Crestone
Please count me in. Have scenarios been decided upon? Too bad we can't simply have fresh maps & pick our units. There is somewhat of an advantage to those who have played the scenarios previously. Nonetheless, should be fun, win or lose. Thanks, Sailor, for putting in all the work necessary to make it happen.

Scenarios will have to be decided after number of participants is closed (since we need "numer of participants -/2" different ones). I have not received much feedback in the other thread so i think we will just decide based on our experience (I have played all scenarios several times now), but will try to pick the most balanced ones.

Feel free to make your suggestions in the other thread anyway.

Tomorrow is the last day for sign up by the way!

Cheers!

The rules have been updated (first forum posting).

If you have a side preference please let me know. I will complete the random seed draw tomorrow.

The tournament officially begins on Monday, November 1st, but you are allowed to get an early start with your first round opponent after the pairings are posted.

Good luck everyone.

Flag Problem on "Close Combat" map

When playing the mp Close Combat scenario a week or so ago, both my opponent (Tombombadil711) and I noticed that the AI was not counting held flags properly. Tom also reported that when he occupied a flag square, the flag did not change. We started the game prior to the last major patch, then patched somewhere after our game was underway. Just bring this up as this scenario is one included in our tournament & could be an issue.

Also ran into the same flag miscount problem today while playing the Beta2 "D-Day Plus 3" scenario. At one point it reported the Axis held 8 flags & the Allies 3. There are only 8 flags on the map. I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this flag miscount problem?

Sorry, my bad. Round 1 is ONE game of Desert Fort. In this tournament you always play the same side.

To clarify. Each round will be played in a different scenario against a different opponent. So :

Round 1- Desert Fort
Round 2- Desert Encounter
Round 3- Bocage Village
Round 4- Along the Road
Round 5- Winter Village
Round 6- Close Combat

FINAL - Race for the Town + 2 scenarios chosen one by each player

Ok.. so 1 more thing before we get started then. Are we all going to be playing BETA 2 maps or what?

I just assumed we would use the updated version 1.4.3 stuff.

I'm not sure what is going on with the maps? the BETA 2 maps are now the regular maps? So i can go ahead and delete all the beta maps then if that is the case

Yes, when updated to 1.4.3 you get the Beta 2 maps with last updates in units as stated by Iain. So use regular map, and go ahead and delete Beta 2.

Isn't 1.4.1 the current version? And are we certain that all the BETA2 maps are in the official multiplayer folder, i.e. within the base game? I'm easily confused

Answer to second question is YES. The official multiplayer folder (when updated) now contains the new maps (with flags and timers) plus the last tweaks to unit assortment done by Slitherine Boys.

First question I should check when back home, but sounds like 1.4.3 to me, yeah.

Just checked in game now and I've got Version 1.3 Build 1.4.1.

Thanks about the confirmation on multiplayer maps - I put this together this afternoon (first post on page 2).

Acererak had a very off day, resulting in a one-sided victory for the Allies. Tally is as follows:

Scenario victory - 30 pts
Allied flags 7 - 70 pts
Axis KIA 18 - 36 pts
Allied KIA 4 (minus) 12 pts

Total Allied score = 124 pts.

Total Axis score = 0 pts.
