I've now sorted the animations and the jeep is done, apart from the various UI graphics. The only thing that I can see that's wrong with it at the moment is it's position on the map grid.

For some reason the back end of the jeep is on the edge of the square rather than the vehicle being centred. Any idea what I have done wrong?

I'm guessing it's not centered on the 0,0,0 coordinate in 3DSmax?

Always the obvious solution that evades me....

Cheers ;)

EDIT: The Z axis needs to be set at about 2.85 or the wheels disappear into the floor.

yeah of course, lowest part of the vehicle (wheels, tracks...) should be at Z = 0 in order to touch the ground.

I wonder if it would be possible to have 2 jeeps per unit, similar to how infantry has several soldiers. A single jeep seems so small and vulnerable compared to other vehicles and infantry squads.

I'd been thinking about that myself. I have given the Jeep mounting a machine gun that I have just made a scouting range similar to infantry scouts, but as I don't yet understand exactly how this works I don't know what to expect. I am hoping that with a few tweaks I can fix it so that the jeep can see most enemies before they see it and can fire on infantry and escape without dying as easily as other soft vehicles.

That could lead to a whole line of Armoured Cars with that ability. Good idea.

Unfortunately I have managed to screw this up all over again. This time I have the jeep showing up but no texture. I have to rush off and pretend I do things more constructive than gaming from time to time, but if anyone can tell me which obvious thing I have missed this time I would be very grateful! :D

LOS and Cover LOS!

Higher LOS and higher Cover LOS values!

If you want more than one jeep, you can set it up as per the infantry units with the number of men. Not sure how it would look though - it's really designed for infantry squads! But worth a try :)

Sounds like you may want to decrease the size of the model by half if you want to do the squad method of displaying 2 jeeps (if it even works!).

I am having trouble getting the texture to show for the machine gun jeep. I have gone through everything i can think of several times, it all seems to be set up just the way the other jeep is, but the texture does not show in the editor. Anyone have an ideas as to something silly I might be missing?

What is the texture name which you have set up in the file? IIRC the game will only use the first texture found in the model, so if there are any others on any of the exported meshes it might be getting confused?

jeep_scout and jeep_scout_d

I have added them to the same campaign as the previous jeep, that can't cause a problem can it?

the names seem fine. My guess would be another texture in the model somewhere? You can actually read the top of the S3F file to see the textures it is trying to load. It ignores the path.

Hope that helps

Hey Ed - have you had any luck sorting the texture problem? I can have a look at it if that helps.
Great to see an old CC'er on this forum - do you still play CC?

I have CC4 (the best :P) installed on my laptop and play occasionally. I still think it's the best WW2 tactical level war game ever made for pc, sorry Slitherine. ;)

I haven't sorted the texture yet. Been quite busy the last few days and to be honest I have been bracing myself to start again from scratch and see if I can fail to make whatever mistake i made second time round. If you would like to have a look I would be very grateful. I'd actually be happier just making the things and handing them over to someone else to get headaches with anyway. :D

I loved cc2 best - I see its been rereleased but I haven't got it. Mostly because I won't have the time to play it! Definately one of the best tactical level war games ever made - I had years of fun playing and modding it.

If you need help with the jeep email me a zip of the model and textures. Mkae it 3ds format as I have Max 8 so can't load anything newer. I won't get chance to work on it until the weekend. Email address is on the web site.

Cheers Tim. Would a download link for a .rar file with everything in be better than an email?
