Here is what I do, many methods probably work about equally well.

I make my composite of paper and foil (actually I have a chunk of it made up in advance).

Cut the flag out of the decal sheet, but only roughly. I leave a pretty generous border.

Peel the backing off the decal.

Decal onto the paper then brush/dab water onto the backing sheet of the decal. You should see the paper soak through, but want to avoid soaking the paper you are using for the flag. When ready the backing off the decal should slide off very easily. I soak up any remaining water with a tissue.

Let the whole thing dry for a bit.

Cut the flag off out precisely. I use a combination of exacto knives and a small pair of nail cutting scissors which I find work well for this.

Get a length of wire I am going to use for the flag pole, dry fit the flag to the pole and get the flag generally bent to fit around the pole.

I then use slow curing super glue thinly applied to one side of the flag, fit it to the pole.

After glue has dried paint around the edge of the flag and the white part of hte decal wrapping the flag pole.

Ok, it works and here is my first try:

I have to practice cutting out those tails at the end, this is very tricky.

That looks great. I personally would'nt even do the tails differently. Looks as if it has seen a lil action. Perfect tail ends would look too pretty IMO

I've had the best luck printing my flag, mirror imaged on cheap copy paper (the cheaper the better surprisingly) and then using white glue applied to one side to glue the flag together over the staff. After 5 minutes, while the glue is still semi-plyable, bend the flag up into a natural looking unfurled position. Once set they're durable and good looking.

While not ancients figures, some photos of flags made in this manner can be seen at the bottom of this post in my blog: http://ajs-wargaming.blogspot.com/2009/ ... axons.html

Hope this helps you out.
