I wasn't aware of that, not that I'm a modder by an means :)

So the community could then create an alternative set of terrain graphics, pasting the ancient set in place of the medieval?

Can such global mods be used MP?

Thanks

Karvon
As Mord guessed in the first post there are some differences in the textures sets of the two games, so it is not quite as simple as putting the FoG2 Ancients textures into a Global Mod. It would require some texture editing to make a good job of it.

Global Mods do not work in MP.

I should mention that many of the FoG2 Medieval screenshots that Mord has used in the first post actually show an early incomplete version of the Medieval terrain graphics. The finished terrain is slightly different in many ways.

Keep in mind that judging/comparing screenshots is not quite the same as playing the game. It’s different than Fog2, but immersive.

@76mm: Wow I really think the graphics in Pike and Shot are well done! If you didn’t know, you can also play top down view ;)

I went to the Matrix store to look at some pike & shot screenshots, but there weren't any...for P&S Campaigns there are a couple, but all of them are zoomed out on the tactical map so you can't see any unit detail. Oh well...

I didn't know someone did a Lepanto mod for P&S, would have been really cool to see a similar naval mod for FOG2.

Both P&S and the illustrations of the 16th and 17th centuries that inspired it are not really meant to be seen from close up, but to provide an overview of a large number of units (and men) in combat order. However I for one like zooming in on P&S units, even if the 3 models/texturing are quite basic (made in 2015) and could certainly be improved now.

However, as TheGrayMouser wrote, immersion doesn't comes only from the graphics.
imho there are also the 3D animations, the music and sounds, the gameplay, your own knowledge about the period, role playing, whether or not you like the period...

for once i m thankful devs in general usually do not change their mind/plan when they are close to the release. i would be dissapointed if they did not pursuit this new style and reverted back to the old one. i d even argue make it even more unique/different that it is now if you can

I very much enjoy the new style, it fits the period well.

what will break or make this game is the faction uniqueness (first gameplay wise and balance , as well as how the actual models* look and how many of them are). even if its bug ridden , we know it ll get fixed as fast as possible and art style is of secondary importance imo (UI and terrain). i do hope the game plays somewhat different than all the previous ones

I probably prefer the Ancients map art style to the new Medieval one, but I don't actually dislike the Medieval one either. At least, I don't really think about it while playing the game.

When you are looking at a screenshot all you have is the visual, but in game you are usually too busy with the actual tactics to think about the art constantly, plus your eyes kind of adjust to it after you are playing for awhile. I think it will seem like less big of a deal once you actually try out the game.
