Aetius39 (Samnite 355-272 BC) defeats SnuggleBunnies (Germanic Foot Tribes 105 BC-259 AD) 58-32

The Samnite army was spread wide, and some of the Germans took a high hill, while the other ones moved up on the Samnite right. The left side of the Samnite army did a wide flanking movement that eventually enveloped the the German army occupying the hill. Those guys were able to turn up and help finish off the rest of the Germans that were going through pretty quickly the Samnite right. Game went down to the last or second to last turn. GG to Bunny and thanks for playing!

Aetius39 (Macedonian 328 BC) defeats TheGrayMouser (Mannaean 750 BC) 64-52

A very close game that could have gone either way. It was quality over quantity and quality barely won. A lot of Macedonia's units were ganged up on and beaten down. Luckily they were able to knock out a few more before the rest of their army fell. Thanks a lot for the game!

My right flank cavalry couldn't stand up to the Byzantine lancer/bow cav... and my center couldn't stand up to the Byzantine infantry... and my hoplites on the left couldn't manage to stick the lancers on their side or keep the rest of the lancers from coming around my rear... and the skirmishers couldn't survive long enough to screen my main force...

It was a comprehensive defeat, really. Some of the warbands had some success, but not enough to save the army from a complete and utter collapse. I think I was more than 20% down before I managed to rout the first enemy unit...

I know people can do well with the Thracians because I've seen it happen, but between my two battles with them I clearly do not have the skills required to do well with them. Good game!

Div 2 result

TomoeGozen (Kappadokian) drew with Kerait(Rus) 59 - 52.

One more turn and the game was Kerait's! A crazy game that saw literally all four corners of the battlefield in use as cavalry bounced off of spears or evaded and spears then tried to chase them down. There were units all over the place and the score see-sawed all game !

Thanks to Kerait for a very entertaining game :-)

Div 3.

MikeC (Carthaginian) def roguedjack (Lombard) 62-36

Tight game till the end when Raw Spears started unraveling for the Lombards. 3 x Elephants kept Lancers in check most of the game.

Result

Random27 (hunnic) draws with snooky51 (gallic) 58-38

Hunnic needed more time to finish the job , a river in the middle of the battlefield has stopped the advance of the gallic tribes :).Hunnic killed most of them with their arrows.
Fights on the river took a lot of time to be finished.
Maybe not a pleasure for my opponent as always against horse armies , you run after them , but when you manage to catch them , it hurts.
Well played :)

Division Three

Blagrot (Sassanid Persians) defeated Delbruck (Sassanid Persians) 60% - 46%.

The terrain gave us both a hill bordering a deep stream which got firmly in the way of both armies and lead to a very cagey but very vicious bout eventually turned by a small advantage in unit numbers in my force. The flank on a rather startled Elephant by some massed archers being my favourite moment, thanks for the game Delbruck.

Aetius39 (Spartan) defeats Challenge 1 (Roman) 60-50

A large stream separated the armies. The Spartan right went over the river and managed to get the better of the Roman left, but a similar thing happened where the Spartan left fell before the Roman right. Eventually the Spartans slugged out a close victory (on last turn I think) with their infantry holding on just a little bit more, along with neutralizing the cavalry at the end. Very close! GG Challenge!

Another update to the standings.

Div 2 is all but finished, only one game yet to be reported. Congrat's to the medal winners: snooky51 1st for the gold, followed by 2nd, TomoeGozen for the silver and 3rd rbodleyscott for the bronze. A close finish with a single point between separating each position.

Div 1 and 3 have a number of games yet to play.

A couple of my matches which have either gone unreported or were missed in the table:

Challenge1 (Bosporan) beat rs2excelsior (Thracian) 45-19

The Bosporans were dug in on a strong hill. While I did better with the Thracians this time than in my other game with them, but I still pushed too hard and tried to make an attack which I shouldn't have.

NikiforosFokas (Ligurian) beat rs2excelsior (Sassanid Persian) 61-36

I honestly got overconfident. I thought I'd have this one covered, with the pretty versatile Sassanids up against the poor-quality Ligurian troops. But there were just tons of them (in terms of raw numbers I was outnumbered 2-1), and in a good position which forced me to attack uphill and restricted my options with rough ground. Lots of flank attacks and units getting swarmed and overwhelmed.
