Karvon (Thracian, Triballi 350 BC with Getae allies) defeated phoyle3290 (Carthaginian, Hannibal in Italy, 216BC with Bruttian allies) 46-20 for a 4-0 win.

Good playing. Smart play to stay in the woods with the medium inf. superiority. I probably shouldn't have spread out like I did, but I didn't expect that many medium foot in the woods. I saw a large number of lights and a few horses along with your token force on your right. I assumed, incorrectly, that this was the bulk of your force. I knew there was more left, but not to the extent that showed up when I reached the large forest...

Good game!

rs2excelsior (Viking, Ireland 900-1049 AD with Scots 851-1051 AD allies) beat bomber23 (Andalusian 756-1049AD with Navarrese 778-899 AD allies) 63-58

Another hard fight with my infantry-centric Vikings (and Irish and Scots auxiliaries) up against a cavalry-heavy army... The fight mostly took place at and below a pair of hills, mostly open. Most of the Adalusian lancers formed up on their right flank, where my cavalry deployed to at least delay, and the Viking infantry pressed forwards to try and win the infantry fight before the cavalry came crashing onto my flank. However, Andalusian light cavalry pinned the meager Viking cavalry wing in place, and they were quickly crushed by the lancers. Spear huscarls quickly wheeled about to hold off the cavalry from the Viking left. Meanwhile, the main Viking infantry line was facing an uphill battle, both literally and figuratively. The veteran Muslim spearmen could easily go 2-1 against my shieldwalls, and there were enough of them to hold off my infantry from engaging the vulnerable massed archers. I thought the battle was done for, that my infantry would break on the defense of the veteran spears and the lancers would slam into my flank, and even before that I'd hit 60% before a skirmisher rallied... but the Muslim spearmen finally succumbed to a few flank charges and autobreaks, and the lancers were forced into an increasingly wide route around the Viking spearwalls I had managed to split off to delay them. The Andalusian infantry crumbled before their cavalry could save them, and pushed them over the break limit.

The final field, and the site of the main battle:

An excellent fight which I thought was lost right up to the end! Very well played to my opponent.

klayeckles (persian+arabs) defeats Questar17 (Ostrogothic) 53 to 25

a wide open field and no real answer for the elephants made it tough going for the ostrogoths.

as a side note to interested parties...the absolute best antidote to elephants is superior spearmen (not so expensive, don't break under charge, crush in melee). i'm facing ConstantinIX in another battle and he brought the dismounted lancers (superior spear) and the persian elephants are neutralized, as they were also in the knockout finals by arab spears.

So he is playing friendly matches but not picking up challenges from June and he is not visiting the forum so that I can speak to him. Oh well. Let's see what alternatives I can come up with then.

I've not had a turn back from him for about a week, so perhaps something's come up. I'm not losing sleep over it as it's just a friendly game and I have others.
