Div 2 Result
snooky51 (German 888-932 AD) defeats Kerait (Byzantine 988-1041 AD) --- 43-14
Both armies were separated by a river w/ high ground in the center of the German line. Germans probed the Byzantine left flank, after some success, the Germans committed their entire line. Byzantine infantry just couldn't hold their own against German dismounted lancers.

Division 2
Captain Savage (Roman 197-284AD) Defeated snooky51 (Hunnic Western 250-376AD) 45:15
A historical match up for a surprise. Basically an infantry army versus a cavalry army. Oh Joy!
The Huns brought two lancer divisions a couple of armoured archers and a host of light and normal bow cavalry. Having learned my lesson from previous defeats I deployed as many cavalry as possible without compromising the integrity of my front line. Initially I was going to deploy as far forward as possible to try and constrict the space but then I looked at the speed with which I could move compared to the Huns and had a sudden realisation that I would just get surrounded before I could deploy. To avoid this, I set up near the baseline protected by forests on either flank and then counter charged when the Huns got close, then it was a case of continually pushing forwards and trying to catch the elusive Huns. I had the advantage of numbers as the Hun units were all very expensive, so I was able to trap and prevent units from escaping once they were in combat. The armoured legions and auxiliaries were tremendous at resisting the archery storm. Almost all my unarmoured units were destroyed and I was very lucky with a few evades that ended in front of other units. The game ended just as some of the Hun heavy cavalry had worked their way into my rear and my line was scattered. So that felt like luck as much as judgement at the end. Great game, thanks to snooky51 for persevering with a challenging brief. Also thanks to those who have previously smashed me with their cavalry armies so that I know some things that do not work.

Thanks for report, Captain! Useful read for me (but slightly on the late side), as my Romans are currently being smashed by Snooky's mounted archer horde in this very tournament. And the other side of the coin with my Bulgars in the Tiny Wars tournament (still being smashed though). But all good learning experiences and it's (mostly) a matter of having fun, right? (Or not.)

Great match from my opponent. The army matchup certainly favoured the Ptolemaics but I sure got a tough fight.

Blagrot (Khazar 650-737 AD) beat Thunderbird (Arab 1000-313 BC) 44% - 6%
The handful of camels that didn't get shot by horse archers caused some trouble but irregular foot don't deal with lancers very well, thanks for the game in a matchup that favoured me I think.

snooky51 (Avar 588-631 AD) defeats kronenblatt (Roman 379-424 AD) --- 64-41
Avar armored horse archers and driving off the roman cavalry early were the deciding factors. Roman heavy infantry never had the chance to get going.

True. And I got spread out too thinly across the map; very easy to flank charge. Got up to almost 40-40, but that was all. Well played, snooky!

Tomoegozen(Spanish) defeats random27(Elamite) 41-14.
Fast moving cavalry , lots of Caetrati and some tough legionaries were too much for the massed Elamite shooting to stop. Very little disruptions on the way in made it very tough for the Elamites once the Spanish got in to combat.
Thanks to random27 for a good game.

Just a gentle reminder that, as I don't have all the DLC, I cannot issue challenges and I have several battles yet to fight. Open for challenges.

Captain Savage (Macedonian) defeated random27 (Scots) 45:12
Phalanxes vs Shiltrons!
The battle was dominated by a hill in the centre of the battlefield with a wood at its crest and surrounded by rough ground. Initially looked like a safe bet for the scots with their medium shiltrons. I brought lots of mediums including 2 Thoratiki mixed in with the Thureophoroi and a heavy warband to support my phalanxes. The scots brought lots of cavalry on their right flank and a mass of skirmishers in addition to two huscarl units and a host of medium pictish spears.
My cavalry was on my left and outnumbered and outclassed they managed to slow down and distract the Pictish cav. I sent my mediums racing for the hill including a phalanx that had to dodge the poor terrain and also redirected my extreme left flank back towards the centre to try to prevent either my right from being swamped and flanked or my phalanxes being hit in the rear by the Scots cavalry. I was lucky in the right centre on the hill and managed to hold off the pictish and huscarl assault. One of my Thureophoroi units managed to sneak around the Scots left flank but was destroyed by well organised projectile fire. The phalanxes in the centre (that became my left flank) just killed everything in front of them. The Thoratiki proved a match for the shiltrons on the rough ground and the warband manged to race from the left flank to my right flank and smash a couple of shiltrons despite losing their general on the first combat. Despite the score it felt like a very balanced match until near the end. Great game to finish on.
I enjoyed myself a lot more after the first couple of games once I learned to just enjoy the chaos and try to puzzle out what could be made to work. Thanks to Kronenblatt for the helpful advice and everyone I fought for making me think about what I was doing.
