What do people want to see for next year's FOG:AM themes?
2008 we had 15mm Rise, Legions, Immortal; 15mm Storm, Swords, Eternal; 25mm Rise, Legions, Immortal
2009 we had 15mm Swifter; 15mm Rise and Immortal; 25mm Wolves and Decline
2010, of course, was 15mm Rise, Legions, Immortal (again - and despite running it three years in a row it was clearly the most popular by entries); 15mm Dragons; 25mm Storm, Swords, Eternal (all three themes including the Lost Scrolls additions)
Would people like something a little different - something more akin to the old DBM themes rather than simply by books? E.g. we could set a 15mm Biblical theme, a 15mm Heavy Metal Thunder theme and a 25mm hairy barbarians theme?
I'm being asked to set themes for 2011 as early as possible, so that we can get it all advertised. Comments would be appreciated.

Tim, some random thoughts:
One benefit of this year's Rome theme was that many players had armies that fitted, so it would be nice if at least one of the 15mm themes covered several books.
On the other hand a narrow theme also poses an interesting challenge. So perhaps one broad theme and one quite tightly defined (similar to this year) would be good.
If you are considering a biblical theme, could I suggest adding in Blood and Gold - i.e. American armies to that? They have a lot in common with pre-chariot stone age armies.
I don't see anything wrong with doing the competitions by themes rather than by books. In fact it may be preferable - if you wanted, say, a dark age slog competition thats a bit difficult using the books as there are a number of cavalry armies in the same book.

Er, not slowed by Uneven that should be IIRC - perhaps it should have been both ...

I would suggest since it is popular keep a roman themed event maybe just the two roman books(Legions and Rise) I know people want to get into the date range maybe a date range that covers these two books.
Biblical event with Blood and Gold
Maybe a event with armies that have mounted Knights in them.
That would give enough people a choice and this would get me on the 2.17pm friday train from Manchester.
Just a though I know it might be difficult for the organisers but could'nt the first game be drawn by date since people add a date to their list it might not be so hard and a game with sort of proper enemies might add a little something.

If you want a proper Roman theme - as in Roman armies and those that fought them (plus, maybe, some sensible what ifs) - you'd still need to restrict further than the books.

Not necessary if you have a proper theme rather than just a pool of armies set by book or date.

A pre 1150 Europe. So some armoured knights. They don't get out enough. Much like me. And a strone age period, nothing with horses unless tied to a chariot. So Mud but no Coal and Softer than Beagles. Just call it Sticks and Stones

If you draw a line before Hungary/byzantium you might also get some Vikings showing up.

It would be nice to have a good range of options. Not all players have a dozen armies to pick from.

Totally agree with Nik. FoG:R for the Burgundian wars is my next plan.

How about a theme with no Armoured or Heavily Armoured troops?

Are you just trolling the anti light horse brigade here?

How about European Barbarians?
That should minimise the amount of drilled troops and shooty cavalry. You might want to lower the points total slightly.

And how are you going to quantify European BaBa? Normans and Anglo Danes.

Agree Roger not everyone can play to a too narrow theme or would want to, so please keep the options open.

Playing at 900 points in some periods would also help create a different dynamic

I assume the organisers will be competent to make a list of lists that excludes any with an obvious unbalancing advantage.

It helps if they have/ask somebody with reasonable FoG knowledge - fortunately Tim will ask (he has before) so we're probably OK.
