Would people like something a little different - something more akin to the old DBM themes rather than simply by books? E.g. we could set a 15mm Biblical theme, a 15mm Heavy Metal Thunder theme and a 25mm hairy barbarians theme?

I'm being asked to set themes for 2011 as early as possible, so that we can get it all advertised. Comments would be appreciated.

Tim, some random thoughts:

One benefit of this year's Rome theme was that many players had armies that fitted, so it would be nice if at least one of the 15mm themes covered several books.

On the other hand a narrow theme also poses an interesting challenge. So perhaps one broad theme and one quite tightly defined (similar to this year) would be good.

If you are considering a biblical theme, could I suggest adding in Blood and Gold - i.e. American armies to that? They have a lot in common with pre-chariot stone age armies.

I don't see anything wrong with doing the competitions by themes rather than by books. In fact it may be preferable - if you wanted, say, a dark age slog competition thats a bit difficult using the books as there are a number of cavalry armies in the same book.

Just a though I know it might be difficult for the organisers but could'nt the first game be drawn by date since people add a date to their list it might not be so hard and a game with sort of proper enemies might add a little something.

That should minimise the amount of drilled troops and shooty cavalry. You might want to lower the points total slightly.

And how are you going to quantify European BaBa? Normans and Anglo Danes.
