WTC Agenda 2024 - 14 Teams
Posted: Thu Sep 05, 2024 1:22 am
by ericdoman1
Greetings Gentlemen
Due to very limited time, we have agreed upon having 14 teams and the use of a Swiss System. The system will be 5 rounds of 17 days each.
The first round draw, will be quite random but no teams of the same nation will face one another. Thereafter the same teams from the same nations can face one another. Although you will never face the same team twice.
We will use the total number of team points to allocate opponents for the next rounds.
Round 1 - 10 September to 27 September
Round 2 - 29 September to 16 October
Round 3 - 18 October to 4 November
Round 4 - 6 November to 23 November
Round 5 - 25 November to 12 December
Cheers
Andes, Angus, Mike and Eric

WTC24 CALENDAR (SWISS TOURNAMENT)

WTC24 with the 14 team entry is being run on a Swiss Tournament basis.
Five rounds means that each player will play five games.
Each round has seven matches of four games.
Each game will be scored as per the current rules for group games.
At the end of each round the teams will be ranked on their total scored points across all periods, and these will also carry forward and aggregate after each round. In the unlikely event game points are equal the team with the lowest aggregate loss will be placed higher.
The following round will match the teams according to their ranked position 1 playing 2, 3 playing 4 and so on.
However, rematches will be avoided.

The timer on the Slitherine tournament games works well. Could it be applied to the WTC?

Hi Steve
We have been asking for months (1 to 2 years) but not sure if it will. Ideally we would need community players who are software programmers and who would have some understanding of the system Slitheine uses.
I personally think it can be used with a bit/lot of tweeking. Maybe asking the right questions
Mike/Triarii and Chris/batesmotel had been lookig into it.

I think the simpler solution probably would be if they added a chess clock option for MP games, which could be ticked like ranked or mirrored matches. This would address this issue without them having to mess around with an event specific tweaking of the servers. I'd be surprised if they were open to third parties tinkering with their proprietary code directly. I've posted this wish before in the development thread; maybe some day?
