Having exhausted (or been exhausted by) my geographically near neighbours, it is time for my Spanish 900 with Andalusian allies to explore the further reaches of Europe. I note that Spain is currently suffering from over tourism, so I did not invite any more of my fellow Europeans to Spain for a vacation
Challenges have been setup for SirMichael's German 888 and for excubitor's Byzantine 600 and passwords have been sent by PM.
I am sure that my explorations will be interesting!

Chris Townsend's Spanish 900 with Andalusian allies defeated ulysisgrunt's Frankish 40 to 14.
Although the dispute with my Frankish neighbour centred over the possession of the Pyrenees, thee was nary a mountain in sight on the chosen battle field. And, although there were several hills on the Frankish side of the map, they had little impact on the game as the Franks bravely deployed a predominantly cavalry force and quickly moved down onto the plain.
The Spanish deployed on the left flank, anchored by a woods on the far left with a few skirmishers. The Andalusian troops on the right deployed a woods on their right, which they occupied with archers, skirmishers and irregulars. Both forces had small reserves of lancers. The Franks deployed most of their lancers, supported by a solid contingent of shield wall and dismounted lancers, against my Andalusian Muslims. However, the first engagement was against a small probing force of Frankish cavalry that sought to find holes in my left flank. The Spanish cavalry, supported by skirmishers and a third of the shield wall, sallied forth to deal with this threat, and actually managed to destroy it piecemeal with only minor losses.
Meanwhile, the Spanish lancers, after dealing with a distraction of the Muslim light horse, collided with the Muslim line, which held! The situation started to change in the Frank's favour when their infantry arrived, but the victorious Spanish left arrived in time to turn the Frankish right flank, and the Muslim cavalry emerged from the woods to complete the envelopment before my centre collapsed.
Good game!

rpadilla Crusader W/ Byzantine allies defeats devoncop Order of St John 53-27
Battle lines were drawn and lapped, to the right was woodland and up the ways a hill that the Order controlled with skirmishers, massed archers and crossbows. The Crusaders brought a sizeable force from the south and pressed to take the hill.. up to the center of the field was another lone hill adjacent to the contested high ground to the right.. at the foot of the hill lay a small town. The Crusaders pressed forward from there and pivot left of the town and with pavisiers and crossbows. Battle occurred on all fronts; the Crusader cav focused on the left and juked and jived, doing damage but taking damage. That small town will have nightmares haunting them for a bit. Both sides left there blood and will on the field; but for sure the Crusaders are more than happy to let bygones be and end this civil silliness.. We've a Holy Land to conquer!
GG devoncop!

Lunecastle (Aragonese) beats Harveylh (Berber) 61-58
They do not come much closer than this. Everything started pretty even, but then Harvylh started to wear my troops down.
Luckily for me, they held for just long enough for support to arrive. The last two points for Harveylh remained elusive and I started to claw back the points. Fighting was in woods, hills, streams and the open. I just scraped by. Thanks to my
opponent for a great game.

SawyerK leading the Syro-Canaanite 1207-1100 BC army and Egyptian 1149 BC ally
defeated
jaerho and his Egyptian 945-720 BC army
by 63 to 35.
This battle was centered between two mountain ranges, which significantly constrained movement and cavalry. Initially, the Egyptians' arrow fire took a dreadful toll, but then the Canaanites made contact, and the conflict went toe-to-toe for several rounds without a clear advantage for either side. Gradually, however, the Canaanites' greater use of infantry vs. massed archers took hold, and the battle went their way. My compliments to Jaerho for a hard-fought match.
