Spanish Civil War Mod (v0.45) not working with :

PS: the original game works without problem.

Hi terminator, pitty it didn't work :/
Did you try if erasing the TGA files from the campaign folder before launching the game solve anything?
That the mod doesnt work means that the game doesnt launch after choosing the mod, or the problem appears somewhere after that, maybe in the campaign screen?
Also, i imagine that your version of OoB is the last one (8.3.0)?
Thanks, lets hope you can solve this somehow

Hi, this is Test-Subject 08/15

.
I tried the new Version of this Mod, but the game crashed two times after launching it.
I have got a error.log, but don't know if it will be helpful!

:/ damn
Sorry, McLeoudX. You can PM the log if you are so kind to do it. <- I try this
Did you try to erase the TGA files? <- No, should I do this? OK.
If you did, at which moment did the game crash? Loading screen, campaing screen,... ? <- It crashed while loading the first scenario of the campaign <-
I hope i can be of any help

Ok, now, after changing all pictures (including 2 which terminator had forgotten) to handly size for the game, it works!
I have won my first scenario in with two tries!
It's really not easy, because first my soldiers seems much weaker than the Nazi-Troops and second, because their reinforcements are very minimal!

I found the problem with the
TGA files: the TGA files are
too BIG.

 With the original size
1648 x 1500 the map is strange and the game crash

 With the size
512 x 466 (the same width as for the original game), the map is good and the campaign does not crash

I don't know how to feel now, if stupid or... stupider
OK, in some hours i will have time (and a computer) to test terminator's solution. Until then, everyone with problems to run the mod should delete the TGA files or... resize them, i guess*. Of course i will upload a new version of the mod with the resised TGAs asap.
And thanks terminator

 (hope you like the campaign

 )
*EDIT: or even better, use the terminator's resized TGAs. Thanks again ter!

terminator, you are the man. Nice. It stands to reason that files one-third the size, yet sufficient for the task, will be easier and less time-consuming for the computer to process.
If you canvass the official DLC, the optimal image sizes seem to be:
- Campaign introductory image 817 x 485 pixels
- Campaign background map 1967 x 1500 pixels
- Campaign mask tga files 512 x 390 pixels
- Campaign/Scenario event and outcome images 512 x 415 pixels
I don't pretend to know how this works in OOB; for example, how tga files sized 512 x 390 fit onto a background map of 1967 x 1500. What I do know is this:
- OOB will attempt to scale images as necessary and force them into the virtual frames provided for them.
- Whatever the file size, OOB will attempt to upload it when it is necessary. Larger files take longer to upload.
- When the extra computer processing time becomes excessive, this will slow the game down and ultimately crash it.
- Resizing and cropping images to standard dimensions control what appears; I do so with my images to show what I want shown.

After having a quick look it seems that in my equip the resized TGA files from terminator do reduce the loading times of the campaign screen. Unfortunately, since the TGA always loaded correctly for me, i cannot confirm that the problem is indeed solved for all you.
I get from Bru last message that for him the new TGA also corrected his problems with the mod, but it would be great if the rest of you could confirm that it is also the case in each of your computers too. You will need to download the last zip file terminator uploaded and replace the TGA files in the following directory: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Mods\The Spanish Prelude 0.45\Campaigns\The Spanish Civil War v0.45 and let me know if that worked. Thanks a lot for helping if you decide to do so

Yep, i could have paid good gold for knowing all this when I started with the mod, Bru

Nicely summarized and hugely useful as always, thanks
Funny enough I suspected long ago that the size of the introductory image could have something to do with the instability problems, but I forgot the hypothesis somehow and never checked. It seems to me funny that loading pics with less than 1 mb of weight could be so problematic for OoB but... I cannot say I know a word about how a program works either, so as far as this fix TSP I'm a happy joe

Well, I didn't exactly say that at the time but I did think of trying it now and . . . success!
I replaced your larger files with those from of terminator's zipped file:

Again, big thanks to terminator for this find.

Here's a question that we should ask terminator. Note that two files are not reduced in size and have September time stamps:

						- Image0147.jpg (163.77 KiB) Viewed 3104 times

In my image editor, these files, mask4_0.tga and mask6_0.tga, are the original file sizes:

						- Image0146.jpg (92.7 KiB) Viewed 3105 times

Did he miss resizing these files or is there a reason why he couldn't work with them? If he misses this inquiry, perhaps you could send him a private message.

Pending terminator's response, I used Corel PaintShop Pro to resize these last two images. It's probably the same thing that terminator did because the size ratio is the same as his files:

						- Image0149.jpg (46.55 KiB) Viewed 3100 times

I got this message, which I don't know if it is important or not. Obviously, I chose to continue:

						- Image0150.jpg (39.95 KiB) Viewed 3100 times

Here are the two reduced TGA images. I put them into the folder and the mod and campaign started fine but who knows where and when mask4_0.tga and mask6_0.tga are used? Perhaps you should wait until terminator replies, one way or the other:

Yes, it is an oversight on my part (I was doing something important for my work at the same time)

Ok, i have uploaded the 0.45a version of the mod with the resized TGAs and copy the link in the first page of the thread. I have tested through the campaign screens and everything seems in order, but again, since i was never able to reproduce the loading problem in my equip, i cannot be 100% sure. The only difference between the 0.45 and the 0.45a are the edited TGA, so if the mod is already running in your computer, you shouldn't bothering with the new version.
Thanks again terminator, for the corrected versions of the files

I think another TGA escape from you again in the second try (mask4_3) but it is already resized in 0.45a. I just mention it in case you play the mod with your files and suffer with another puntual problem with the campaign screen.
And thanks to bru also for looking in detail to the files, i didn't check them the first time and this could have cause me new headaches in the future if undetected now
Regarding sin-título2.tga... I honestly don't remember xD It seems to me trivial now, but it took me time to figure out even the basics of how overlaying on the campaing maps, so i generated a lot of tgas files testing things. I guess it should be one of the initial proofs. Anyway, i delete the file in 0.45a since it shouldn't do anything in the mod (except weighting the zip)

It is as zekedia said: if you don't fulfill every secondary objective you just obtain a minor victory. Anyway i see a couple of strange things in your captures:
- In Extremadura the first air objective should be checked, as you did 20/20 damage points with your fighters.
- In Madrid the counters regarding the secondary VPs are acting funny. One is counting 14, the other one is counting 15. I'll look into it.
Regarding the budgets, i tried to finely adjust the RPs to make the mod challenging. There is already a reported bug in the Universitary City scen, when you have -150 RP at the beginning if you didn't played the Palma/North scen (and you need a Major Victory in Extremadura to play those), but otherwise the RP flow should be working fine... Could you give me more details of the shortage?
Anyway, happy you finally could play the mod thanks to the "technical lend-lease" from terminator
