Having read the rule on pg76 re battle groups in side edge to side edge contact being able to turn and contact an enemy battle group, can anyone give me an opinion on this.

VVCC

V are a BG which has pursued but lost contact with a broken enemy BG. They are facing down the page. C are an enemy BG facing right and have the right edge of BG V in contact with their rear edge. It is now BG C's turn. In their manoeuvre phase, can BG C do a 180 degree turn and contact V as per the above rule, presuming any CMT is passed.

No. Just 90 degrees. Suggest you move quickly to a safer position if you don't want to fight them, or if you want to tie them up turn 90 to face the same direction as they do. If they move forward enough, you are behind them. If they turn to fight you, you turn to fight them, and it's just a Melee without any Impact phase.

I thought the only clpse combat between BG's was by a charge ie impact and then melee phase.
