Necrons seem overpowered to me

I have 125 hours in this game. With the latest DLCs and modding on Steam, I am now thoroughly in love with it. It's a great game.

One of my main problems right now is that I strongly believe Necrons are overpowered. That has always been my suspicion considering that they have generally pretty well armored units, the ability to heal on any given turn after combat, and very strong long range shooting. My suspicion was confirmed on a more recent game, however, when, while playing as the AM, I was sandwiched between a very strong Necron faction and a very strong Chaos faction. After they destroyed me I saw that they both had been able to secure long stretches of land on opposite sides of the map with an ocean in between them. So in other words, the only way they could attack each other was by going through me, and they were both in equally strong positions, except that the Necrons had actually had to fight through a Tau faction as well to get to me, while Chaos fought a much weaker Tyranid faction. I let about 10 or 15 turns go by after I was defeated to see who would win, and the Necrons absolutely steamrolled Chaos. Like, it wasn't even close. The Necron force was destroying many units each turn, while Chaos was simply not able to muster even a decent defense.

I think that thematically the Necron units feel right and I wouldn't want them to be nerfed. I think a better way would be minor nerfs to Necron production.

I would also urge you to get in touch with the Too Many Voices modder and bring his voices into the game officially.

My only other gripe is that I think the difficulty levels are a little bit unbalanced. I personally find Very Hard to be impossible to beat, while Hard is too easy. Although it depends so much on your start position that I understand it's hard to calibrate. But the Locknot's expanded set up mod has created a very good middle ground with the Hard+ difficult. Kudos to you guys for making mods available on Steam btw, that was a total game change for my enjoyment of the game.

Also, if you are going to use Astra Militarum for the Imperial Guard, than you should call Space Marines Adeptus Astartes.

Anyway, thanks for making this game, it's awesome. Keep up the good work. I hope the Adeptus Mechanicus are the next DLC faction!

No comment about Necron's being overpowered or not. but one way to depower necrons with out changing the AI difficultly is to lower the amount of necron tomb tiles?

I think that the problem is that the Necron AI handles its unique mechanics better than other AI races handle theirs. Specifically, I remember a dev posting that the AI doesn't cycle out damaged units as well as it needs to, so Necron AI have an advantage in that regard.

So in general, for the time being at least, if there is a Necron AI, expect it to dominate the other AIs unless you put an end to it early.

Good explanation. It's true when we fight against Necron, we must immediatly end some of their units, not making much more damage by 'just' heavily damaging many.

Try multiplayer. You can not adequately assess their strength based on performance of an AI opponent.
