Siege...is this a bug or am I missing something?

In my recent game as Gallii, I was invaded by Parisii.

I had an army in my region that was consuming 7 food per turn and was besieged by the enemy. The region had 50 food in reserve, so I thought I could safely stay behind my walls till the main army arrived to relieve them in a couple of turns.

After the first turn of being besieged my garrison had lost a plethora of units, being left with just 2 regular infantry. A second turn later the region had fallen.

Please note that the enemy did not assault the walls, and the region still had plenty of food left in reserve.

My question is, why did my garrison die out so quickly and surrender without a fight?

Most likely you were besieged. Did you get that red icon with the trebuchet? (its also in the logs I think).
If you are besieged you can loose units in the process. They died because stones fell on their heads not because they ran out of baguette. :D

Yes I was being besieged, yet I've never seen such a drastic rate of casualties during a siege (not even when say, playing Romans and being the attacker).

At most I've seen units take hits to their health and effectiveness, not be wiped out wholesale. I lost 4 units of light cavalry and 5 of light infantry in 1 turn, all with previously full hits & effectiveness, and with enough food stored to keep them fed for 4/5 turnes.

Also note that the enemy causes no breach in the defences.

If a region has just grown the food reserves are low, at least a granary should help?

That's the point thought, there were 50 food stored, and the garrison was consuming 7 per turn prior to the siege. There was enough to see them last a few turns unless they got assaulted.

Instead over half the army disappeared in the first turn of the siege, and then the region simply passed over to the attackers at the end of the 2nd turn.

No breaches, no starvation, no assault....the army simply died off. Hence why I'm asking if this is a potential bug or not. Never experienced anything similar in my other games, whether as attacker or defender.

If you have the save take a thorough look at the log. You will most likely find the message about the siege.
Losses do happen without a breach.

And also look at the siege advantage of the attacker, if it is high, then that's definitively they got a lucky roll or two, representing they shoveled a few tons of boulders on your garrison.

Plus Light Cav and Light Inf are brittle!
