Hi

Is there any list of recruitable units by faction/ethnic?
And also what need to be done to unlock them?
(Through decision, through civilization level, through some building)

I have no idea if carthage actually able to recruit heavy cavalry or not

Because I built castrum catapracthae but I couldn't recruit any

Or does it need to be built at the province capital?

I built a barrack at some other province region, but couldn't recruit the liby phoenician infantry

Is it locked by region?

And also, how to build light cavalry?
I saw mercenary light cavalry but not the national unit one

Thanks

You need at least a stable in the province to be able to build any cavalry at all, when you mouse over the units that can't currently be build you should see what is needed.
Also you must be civ level III now since you can build the Castrum Catapracthae so all should be unlocked even if not build-able.
The building of the elephant building also doesn't seem to unlock anything just give ivery.

I do have stables
and castrum catapratchae
they are on different region, but in the same province

but no option to build heavy cavalry shows up

I just want to know if every faction will get

light infantry (skirmisher)
med infantry
heavy infantry

light cavalry(skirmisher)
med cavalry
heavy cavalry

and if there is any special unit specific to that faction/ethnic group

like legion for rome, sacred band for carthage, phalanx for hellenistic etc etc
and how to build them

I haven't see any option to build light cavalry and heavy cavalry as carthage

got a barrack in Latium,
it said will unlock Liby Phoenician infantry, Sacred band ,and Phoenician Foot

but when I go to unit recruitment,
it didn't show any besides Phoenician Foot

that's why I'm looking for faction unit roster and how to build them

so I don't need to wonder what options are available for me

Guessing here.
Sacred Band can only be build in capital.
Liby Phoenician infantry maybe can only be build in Africa

that's most probably the case
that's why it would be easier if there is some info available regarding the unit availability and how you can get them

if I know before hand,
I could just demolish the barrack and use the slots to build something else

and I'm still looking for info regarding heavy cavalry and light cavalry for carthage

The only full and "official" source I'm aware of is the game files themselves - look for "units.csv" file in the game directory. You can import it into Google Docs / Excel (the file uses Semicolon as the separator character for the columns). Plenty of information in there, including whether the unit is provincial or faction specific for example, which buildings it may require, unit stats and so on.

that's quite helpful there

but I got more confused now

on the carthage tag
I don't see any cavalry at all besides merc cavalry and merc light cavalry
but I could somehow build medium cavalry

and then I saw a carthaginian war chariot, but I'm not sure how to make them
the unit description just said need wheelmaker

in a way the units csv is interesting
but not too friendly

The Chariot might be a relic from a bygone age.

The Chariot is only used in the DLC campaign.

You can also check instead database.zip which is made of XLS/XLSX, much more friendlier.

Thanks for the clarification

But it sucks to be Carthage

Can't really built any heavy unit outside their home province in Africa

No heavy cavalry available
Light cavalry only through merc or provincial unit

I understand that sacred band can only be recruited in their capital province,
But limiting liby phoenician heavy infantry to only be recruitable in africa, is not a really good incentives to build training ground/barracks everywhere else then

The only infantry you could recruit outside of your home province is just the med infantry or the mercenary hoplite which becomes more expensive with every unit

And as your empire grow larger, you need to ship more troops from your home province

Sorry for the rants

Well personally I think that playing Carthage is so interesting exactly because you have to rely on various kind of mercenaries coming from different places, and your core army comes from your home provinces in Africa... and that was exactly what happened historically.

Same thing from the Romans : their Republican Legions are only recruitable in Rome, and you have to move your troops from there to where you want them to be.

Playing as Carthage, you are drowning in cash, so paying Mercenary Hoplites to have some Heavy infantry quickly on the field is very handy. If it’s too costly, disband them after the war : they are mercenaries after all.
You can’t play Carthage as any other regular powerful nation such as Rome or the Seleucid, your military has downsides, but you make up for it by the mercenaries you hire with the absurd amount of money you make from trade

But I do agree that it is often complicated to know exactly if you’ll be able to recruit some units in some regions, I struggled a bit with it at first but got used to it

I kinda understand

it's just that there is no information handy about what is available and what is not available from the start, so you might have some indication or some sort of plan what do you want to do with troops management etc

instead of building training ground/barrack and then whoops actually cannot recruit that unit or this unit

or building those castrum cataprachtae and then only to find out that you can't build heavy cavalry

Justa suggestion,
rather than just display unit roster like this

Image

isn't it better to display the whole list of available units and see what you need to do to unlock it

The units which are not shown are the ones area-restricted, because we feared to have too many units shown. Perhaps as an option ...

I agree that cluttering is not really good
but one way or another, also need to display some information about the national unit instead of walking blindly

and also,
got a question regarding improved heavy infantry

are all of them supposed to get the besieger ability?
or just for some specific nation?

because on the description, it mentioned about getting a besieger ability, but there is no besieger icon on the improved liby phoenician infantry unit

Are there any heavy infantry that can siege?

The Besieger ability from the reform is not shown in the UI.

Hellenes HI can siege, because the medium infantry has +1 counter-siege, so it was given to them.
