Of what army is the guy with the goggles a member?
The branch insignia looks like modern-day US Infantry officer.
Anybody know for sure what army? The picture is from Italy after an allied victory.
thanks in advance!

I bet he's an American tank commander, from the googles.

I have no idea, but he seems to have a "crossed sabres" insignia (collar).

That could point to cavalry, which I'd guess is more like "armored cavalry" in US terms at this time in WW2. So could be a tank guy indeed, or armored recon or so.

US Army. Insignia, goggles, canteen and shoulder ribbon supports.

Mech Cav most likely. No tanker jacket, but it could be warm.

Thanks, guys.
I'm now satisfied that it's safe to use this picture as a victory picture for US forces.
I'm pretty sure that's infantry insignia on his collar (crossed muskets it appears to me, Bebro -- thanks for the link!) but he probably is mechanized, therefore the goggles. I didn't know if they used those collar insignia in WWII.
So thanks again -- I like the picture but just wanted to make sure he was US so I didn't get called down about it later.

The canteen looks American issue and not British or Canadian, which were more flask shaped.
