Woohoo, just having a nosey on BHGS and spotted I have a FOG ranking after only playing 6 months.

I managed 2 competitions last year and have a ranking of 197 from a previous of 159. not sure quite why I have worsened unless initially I am given a provisiona ranking. There are people below me and I managed to beat someone in the top 30 at my club last week so there is hope for me.

All I need do now is try and fit in more competitions this year.

If you play in any torunaments within a 12 month period you will get a ranking. The ranking is based on how well you do in the competitions you play in. The reason your ranking has dropped is that other people have done better than you did while you have not been playing (sneaky blighters eh ;) )

Essentially you get between 1 and 120 points for each competition you play in. 1 point for last and 80 for first in most comps, 100 for first in a Major (Roll Call or Warfare) and 120 for a first in a Grand Slam (BHGS Challenge or Britcon). Total the points for all the tournaments you have played in and divide by 6 to get a rating. If you play more than 6 tournaments in a 12 month period then the extra ones are averaged out.

There is a bit more detail than that but essentially until you play 6 tournaments a year your rating will go up every time you play. Once you have played 6 comps then you need to do better than you have in the others to increase your rating. As everyone is busy playing lots of comps they are all doing the same thing so you need to keep playing to avoid drifiting down the list.

The player with the most FoG tournaments logged in the last year is Roger Greenwood with 14....

I have 11 FoG tournaments in the UK plus one in Finland and 7 or 8 Flames of War ones as well :D

Did I really play at fourteen events? I played more last year than I have done for a while. My ranking is not going to be overly spectacular. I have shunned the much fancied WotR army I could use in favour of trying to make the Hussites work. The wagons will roll again at the Challenge. I am blaming Dan Hazelwood for my defeats this time. He gave me yet another idea for the army composition that I have been unable to resist trying.

My only hope for a better ranking is the that the biblical lists are due soon and I am keen to try the Assyrians. This will only be temporary of course because come the end of the year the Burmese will be back.

What qualifies a competition to be counted in the results then? Do you have to be officially sanctioned?

I think you just have to send Hammy the results.

Exactly :D

FWIW, in the UK any tournament that I get the results for is counted. Most only count as minor comps but a minor comp could range from 8 players playing 3 600 point games in one day to 48 doubles teams playing 4 games in two days.

The UK is over twice as big as Ohio (in area).

PS
Don't forget the UK includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, not just England. (The Celts wont let you forget it if you meet one!)

Excellent then I should face you and that dumb idea i gave you. Hmmm. Actually might work well against my army, but it is sure to be a winner.

Though they may smile if you suggest maybe it should just be England.

name of Great Britian/England/United Kingdom?
Great Britain is the big island that includes England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The British Isles is Great Britain and all the little islands surrounding, out to Scilly and the Channel Islands, South; Orkney and Shetlands, North; Ireland and its islands, West; and all those bits of france that we should still own, East. Note The British isles is a geographical not political thing.
